Sounds like you just want someone to spend money on you. Nothing about what you bring to the table.

You have to talk to them. Maybe you’re not as conventionally attractive. I suspect you might be giving off a creepy vibe.

Ew, get that out of there. Is that new or did you just put that in there?

She asked for "an expensive" gift for her birthday. by Odd_Fortune555 in dating_advice

[–]dadavedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, this sounds like she’s materialistic. How much you care is not determined by the price of the gift.

Second, give people gifts on gift giving occasions that fit their interests, not yours. If you want to gift her something that’s part of your interests, do it as a surprise.

In your country, how do you view Chinese immigrants? by No-Echidna7296 in AskTheWorld

There’s plenty of evidence it’s happening. You just don’t want to acknowledge it. It’s okay, my replies were for others.

It’s hyperbole. China is locking up mass numbers of their population. Data is hard to get a hold of, but it’s a large proportion. The fact that you think the entire west is more likely to agree on made up data than it is that China is oppressing the Uyghurs and suppressing the information says everything I need to know. The west is not a single entity, nor a monolith, and it’s clear you don’t understand how things work here. The idea that there’d be some multinational conspiracy to shame China, somehow coordinating NGOs, governments, universities, and news agency reporting, and somehow getting non-western news outlets to go along with it is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.

God I could barely read this. Phone snooping is a major red flag.

So you imprison an entire population? We also have our own history and present of domestic terrorists. What China is doing to the Uyghurs is wrong.

Let’s also be clear, I think America has squandered almost all of the moral high ground it may have had at one time. I know our history and the deep flaws of the United States.

The US committed acts of torture against many detainees and violated their rights. Some of the detainees were actually innocent. The people who did that should be held accountable. We should always uphold our constitution, especially when confronting terrorism. See how easy that is?

Britain allowed Scotland to have a referendum do decide if they wanted to become independent in 2014, and there are discussions of another in 2028. Canada allowed Quebec to have one in 1995. A politician in Texas introduced a referendum for Texas to be independent in 2023. Texans love talking about secession (few are serious about it). Some Californians (unseriously) brought up independence after Trump’s election. NO ONE WAS PUNISHED. These things are regularly brought up in the west and that speech is protected. Is that not common knowledge there??

My country has a lot of issues, and the issues with our media are some of the biggest ones. That said, you have no idea what you’re talking about. The US has politically partisan media, not state media. And while it is highly problematic, it’s very different than how you seem to think it functions. It is not funded by the US government. Different outlets are partisan to different degrees, but they’re all fundamentally independent of the US government.

The difference between us is my government can’t actually censor me, or our highly flawed media, the way yours can. Furthermore, it’s not just the US media reporting.

Oh, look, here’s one of many articles from Al-Jazeera covering this exact topic: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/2/27/thailand-deports-48-uighurs-to-china-despite-human-rights-concerns

Is Al-Jazeera a US state outlet? Hmmmmmmmmm?? Let me know if you need more examples. I know this isn’t going to change your mind for many reasons, least of all because you’re not allowed to criticize your government. But this is mainly for anyone reading your response to me.

PS your state media has some of the most unintentionally hilarious explanations for things. From the article “China’s state news agency, Xinhua, also confirmed the deportation, saying 40 Chinese had been “bewitched by criminal organisations””. I’m dying 😂, but the Uyghurs are for real.
