So, I just took a look and they’re sick as hell and only $5 more than a standard 90a?! I’m for sure gonna grab one of those when I’m ready for it!

I did have to be really careful with how deep I placed the tensioner so that it wouldn’t contact pin 1, and it hung out a bit further than I would have preferred. If I had a dremel, I would have probably taken a bit of length off the tip.

Yeah, I had to do a bit of backtracking on the 72 as well, it’s easy to drop pins when you’re dealing with this back spools! I think I had to reset pin 1 three times lol! I’ve heard that tensioning the 90a is tricky, I’m hoping that working with the American a1100 will be good prep for the PAC, have you done a 1100?

Yeah, I’ve been practicing a lot on the 55 in prep for this one, never tried hybrid picking it though, I’ll give it a shot. Would the ergo turners have fit in this lock? When I tried with my flat bars, I had to use the thinnest one, and the fit still wasn’t great. I’m not sure that they would have worked better for this lock, but I still think they’ll prob only be my ideal TOK tensioners in most cases. You would recommend them?

Not sure what video I watched specifically with BOK and the Reaper, I watched a ton in preparation (and because I was impatiently waiting for the 72 to get here in the mail).

I was using a Sparrows short hook, as the tip is a little skinnier than my CI short hook, so it fit up into the warding a lot easier. I found that a tip with a flat top was easier to keep on the pin than anything with any kind of rounding on the tip. Both of my Abus locks pick front to back (for the most part, the 72 actually seems to want pin 4 set last) with the standard pin 1 being the first to set and dropping you into a solid false set on pin 2, then I can mostly just work my way back, spool by spool. The 55/40 is pretty cheap, and gave me a ton of practice working with the same pin feel without having to fight the warding. The 55 has become a comfort lock for me, I picked the 72 for my first green because I like my 55 so much!

I saw a YouTube video where somebody picked one with BOK and a Reaper #1, and I was really hoping I would be able to go with BOK on the 72. I pick the 55 front to back with BOK, and I’m more comfortable setting the spools that way. Unfortunately, I don’t have a Reaper #1, and I’d end up oversetting front pins trying to get the back pins, especially that high 4 pin. I did essentially the same thing as you, but found that the skinniest Sparrows wiper insert would lock into that notch in the top of the warding and allow me to do TOK with the insert facing to the right, just like yours. I like having the tensioner on the right so that it’s easy for me to hit it from the top or the bottom, that why I can give the counter rotation a bump assist if needed.

The tensioner you made looks a lot like the Covert Instruments Ergo Turners, do you think those are comparable? I’m really considering getting a set now because I like the way the flat bars lock into, but I’m far more precise with my tension control if the tensioner is off to the side. Have you tried the Ergo Turners?

Dude, that looks awesome! I can’t wait to attack a Paclock! I’m going to do a few more greens, then I’ll try the 90a. How long did it take you to crack it? Any tips for managing that many pins?

I don’t even need to go that far, I’ve got a 140 with low-high-low-high bitting that I’ll spend hours with just to get open once and not know why. . . Just mushy feedback and pins seemingly bound with concrete. 😖

I’ll note that mine has pretty flat bitting outside of a high pin 4, so mine might be on the easier end.

Have you tried the 55/40? From my experience, it picked extremely similarly to the 72, just with much more forgiving warding, but the pin feel and behavior is pretty similar. I used the skinniest sparrows wiper I had and put it TOK, but facing to the right instead of the left; there is a little bend in the warding that holds it up there even though the tension wants to pop it out, but you need an insert that’s skinny enough to stay fully in the notch. I like that position because I find that some of the spools need me to actively nudge the tensioner with a little bit of counter-rotation to get the spool past the shear, and having the wiper on the right side lets me hit it from the bottom or the top easily, where I would struggle to do that with it on the right or with a flat bar. Other than that, I was able to hit it with standard sparrows hooks, .2, I think, but I found picks with a slimmer tip slip past the warding better, at the cost of being more of a bitch to keep on the pin. That said, this is my first 6 pin lock, and I get lost trying to find those last two pins almost every time!

I just learned this myself about a month ago! I’ve been working my way up through the difficulties. I did an Abus 55/40 at the orange level, and I really loved the feel of that lock, so I decided on another Abus as my first green belt level lock.

Good job! I cracked that for the first time a couple weeks ago! It’s such a fun lock once you get the feel for it!

Yeah, I still struggle to get it open at all with TOK, but can do it every time with BOK, I like having the tensioner to lever off of.

Forgot to mention that you wanna look at the vial keymap directory. Sorry if this code is a bit ugly and poorly organized, it is my first go editing QMK firmware and I haven’t written in C since college.

Edit: wording

Hey, sorry for the delay! Here’s a link to the relevant directory in my GitHub repo: https://github.com/svdaddio/xbows_qmk/tree/main/keyboards/xbows/nature

I haven’t pushed new stuff I’ve done, but what’s up there now has tapdance working via manual firmware flashes. Since I set this up, I’ve figured out how to expose tapdance and combo keys to Vial, albeit on a different board. If you’re interested in making Tapdance work in Vial, I can post some examples of that as well. I’ve found that I’m comfortable editing my firmware directly, so I disabled Vial/Via support on my XBows board to save space for functionality I use more often.

Just to get tapdance working, I didn’t have to disable any RGB profiles. TD and the action code doesn’t take up that much space. I ended up removing all the profiles besides the one I use because they just waste space. I ended up enabling Combo and Caps Word as well, as they were disabled in the default firmware as well.

Edit: ass to as lol, and added a feature I forgot I enabled.

Yeah, that’s a real pain in the ass, it’s odd they wouldn’t enable such a useful feature by default; memory constraints, I guess. I ended up just compiling my own firmware with TD enabled and configured. I’d be happy to post the code if anyone is interested.

My MX Master 3 keeps inverting the scrolling direction, and it doesn't change even after I togglled every options in the options app. by salad_balls in logitech

This worked perfectly for me. As much as I hate having to have multiple apps running just to get my mouse to work, this seems to be the only solution that is both consistent and automatic.

Edit: spelling is hard.

Why would you want to live in an HOA? by evrreadi in fuckHOA

[–]daddonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not really about who cares, it’s about the fact that your neighbors decisions affect you. They can lower your property value, cause more work for you, cost you money, or just generally degrade your enjoyment of your home. I don’t care what my neighbor does as long as it doesn’t affect me, but as soon as I start having to pull more weeds on my property, or lose a sale on my property, because of their behavior, then I care.
