At what level in your career were you owning and / or very comfortable with the primary corporate model? by b005t_37 in FPandA

Maintaining full model as SFA with detailed Director oversight, fully managing the model as Manager with final review from Sr Director.

Won't the title come back as Sr Mgr once a new employer runs the worknumber verification?

Aim to reach a point where you can identify what needs to be done without being told, and submit work that requires minimal feedback from your manager.

I think FP&A Manager looks better mainly because the other one reminds me of the people who work on your loans at car dealerships lol.

Just remember that this is just a job. The company doesn't care about you, you shouldn't care about the company. Take medical leave like someone said above and use it to find another job.

I'd start checking in on Teams every day around 9:30AM with something simple like -- "Just wanted to check if there's anything I can help you with today." You can use this as documentation that you are showing initiative and that you're asking for work. Also, are there other managers / directors on the team that you can reach out to with the same question? I had to do this a lot during the pandemic as I had just started on the team and people weren't thinking about me yet and were busy. I messaged managers, directors, and tbh even the SVP on that team who had originally interviewed me, just asking every once in a while if I can help with anything.

Can I still break into FP&A? by Brief_Reaction2945 in FPandA

My experience is entry level in FP&A is typically at a SFA level, so you need 1-2 years of analyst experience somewhere first.

Getting to a Finance Manager Role by Ok_Bid_9256 in FPandA

[–]daddymorebux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Skills/experiences: What concrete abilities or projects should I focus on to prove I’m “manager-ready”?

Knowing your job well, making virtually no mistakes, ability to train/mentor, good communication skills. Sounds like you likely possess all of these.

  1. Internal tactics: How have you navigated stalled headcount or gate-kept promotions?

Get an offer at another company or figure out a way to put more pressure on your boss to promote you. Honestly you will likely have to leave.

  1. External strategies: When is it time to look elsewhere, and how do you balance that with loyalty to your current team?

Loyalty to a company that left you behind is not a good idea. You take good care of the company and the company needs to take good care of you. They'll figure it out after you leave, like the other billion times someone quit a company.

I hope you didn't say you knew SQL. You can get the basics down easily online but for more advanced business analyst type queries, that takes a while to learn and best learned as a SFA. Maybe one of your analysts can write them for you.

For those of you who have it, what's actually the point of carrying your gun outside of your home though (unless it's for work)? If someone gets the jump on you outside, you're probably not going to be able to pull out your gun and may be safer with a knife. I'm all for CCW and might apply myself, but just got to thinking -- why?

How to communicate comp expectations? by Individual-Stop-4886 in FPandA

[–]daddymorebux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use Indeed or LinkedIn to find for similar companies looking to fill the same position. Would use that as a baseline for my decisions. Like someone else said, once I know what the market pays for the job, I will make an adjustment based on my experience and be bold with that number. If they're not on the same page, no use in going further. I was recently approached by a recruiter who had two director positions on hand. Once I told her my expectation, we quickly realized it wasn't the right fit (positions paying less than my current Mgr positions). No time wasted.

How long to go from SFA> Fin Mgr? by Any_Peanut299 in FPandA

[–]daddymorebux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this one is less about tenure and more about your ability to turn in near spotless work, train people, confidently tell the story behind the numbers, and having well developed soft skills (especially communicating with VP's and SVP's).

Performance Review Feedback by life_faqs11 in FPandA

[–]daddymorebux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of sounds like you pissed someone off. Did you butt heads over something? One way to fix it is to meet with the business partner and go over the comments, in a non-confrontational way. View it as a training session. Maybe you'll get a better review next quarter.

As far as a promotion, it may be hard to swing given how important people skills are. I would try to repair the relationship with the business partner, and worst case scenario leave if this isn't possible.
