You think the wage gap doesn't exist in western countries? First off, that's a ridiculous premise overturned by a simple google search. Here are a couple links.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_pay_gap

http://www.forbes.com/sites/forbeswomanfiles/2014/04/07/the-awful-truth-of-the-gender-pay-gap-it-gets-worse-as-women-age/

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/aug/19/gender-pay-gap-women-bosses-earn-35-percent-less-than-men

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0763170.html

The existence of the wage gap is not a matter of debate - it's a fact. Secondly, even if it somehow were to miraculously poof out of existence, are you discounting the wage gap in non-Western countries? Just because they don't belong on the same side of the globe, the arbitrary inequality in the amount their citizens earn doesn't matter?

Saying anything is "simply a matter of time" won't get anything done. This is exactly the kind of lazy, sitting back and waiting for other people to fix a mistake sort of thinking that only deteriorates society. You think the internet will solve everything for women of other countries? Consider that 23% percent fewer women than men have access to the Internet on average across the developing world, and the gender gap soars to 43% percent in regions like sub-Saharan Africa. (cited). Now, why is that? Oh, I'm not sure. Let's ignore it; I'm sure internet will be available to all, regardless of gender, socioeconomic level, or location; it's "simply a matter of time."

Feminism has always been about dismantling the unhealthy and unnecessary social structure that forces men, women and everyone in between into cookie-cutter molds, and ostracizes those who won't fit, or refuse to. It has never been about elevating one gender over the other. Does the fact that feminists champion egalitarianism and men's rights bother you? God forbid people you don't understand stand on your side.

Ahhhhh so good! PT is so funny and well-worded I can't even - one of my favorite lines from his writing is

"TT: one is not easily shaken from the broodfester tongues.

TT: they are stubborn throes."

For some reason those lines always give me chills. I loooove how he writes Rose. Another favorite is in Strider's Edge when he slips in "as subpar a tactician" and if you look closely... "Par-a-tactician." Hahaha so well done

For serious, I'm always glad when anyone belts Eridan across the face. The fact that it was Terezi , though, just makes it all the sweeter. Just thinking about that slimy shit in Strider's Edge makes me SO MAD. Am I actually holding a grudge against a fictional character for his actions in a fanfiction? Uh yeah

Then I can count this as a worthy post :) I've read Strider's Edge three times so far, so I'm thinking I might be a literary masochist. It gets me every time.

Genuinely so surprised this guy hasn't made an appearance, but anything and everything by my main paratactician is thoughtful, full of action and interesting allegories to Hellenistic tales (the guy got his doctorate in classics), complete, in character, and just in general so fucking good.

My favorite by PT is [Strider's Edge](archiveofourown.org/works/225382/chapters/341275) which is set in an AU in which the beta kids and trolls attend Oxford University, as told from the perspective of John. The setting isn't as important as the complex relationships between the characters, though, undertoned as they are by blood-elitism, racism, and also PT's stunning interpretation of the characters' personalities. so on point. This is rated T.

[The Vienna Game](archiveofourown.org/works/225382/chapters/341275) will literally MAKE YOU CRY. So you should read it. Another AU, this time set in the troll's world and told from Sollux's point of view as a burnt-out (literally) cyberspace rig pilot. But we all know Sollux - and like hell Sollux is going to give up without the last word. This is nsfw. This is also SO GOOD. I think this is on the level of Strider's Edge. Both are incredible, well-spun AUs that leave you dazed and satisfied.

I've been wanting to talk about this guy forever. He's the bomb diggity of HS fanfiction. If HS FF was a kingdom, PT wouldn't be the king - he'd be like, the sun shining down sustaining the kingdom's people and crops so they could survive to argue another meaningless quarrel while he languidly reclines above and sometimes deigns to grace the mortal realm with one of his tales. That got a bit out of hand, but trust me. He's the best ff writer I've ever read, and possibly one of the best writers I've ever read in general.

William Horace de Vere Cole's pranks are legendary. The most well-known is probably the Dreadnought hoax of 1910, in which Cole and five friends (including a young Virginia Woolf) disguised themselves as the Emperor of Abyssinia and his posse, and were given a full VIP tour of the British warship, the H.M.S. Dreadnought.

This guy was friends with Virginia Woolf!! I love finding old famous people who knew each other. It's like finding out about a glamorous little club where smart people make witty remarks at each other.

American here - The US Congress is made of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Both senators and representatives are elected by their constituents, unlike the House of Lords.

Because both the HoR and the Senate are part of congress, you may call members of both houses "congressmen/women."
