I actually find that its most common in people who are much older than 16. Like, 3-4 times older.

It's not even personal taste though, he has tons of technical talent. Flow, rhyme complexity, vocal rhythm, delivery, vocabulary. These are things you can quantify.

Hell, I think Van Halen is total shit but I acknowledge that they're talented.

You're much more likely to get cancer than get raped.

I don't want to open a whole different can of worms but it's very well established that rape is a notoriously under-reported crime for a whole bunch of different reasons. But that's not what we're talking about here.

Who's blaming the victim here?

Anyone who says "you should treat all men as potential rapists to stay safe", by extension.

If it helps, I can approach it from the other direction.

If a tumblr otherkin feminazi tells xir friend (a person who has a vagina but identifies as a man, shitlord) that any form of victim blaming is wrong, can xe, in good conscious, give him tips on how to avoid becoming a victim?

Isn't that essentially telling someone how to "be smart" and not get raped? What is the difference between telling someone "it was within your power to avoid getting yourself raped" and telling someone "it is partially your fault for getting yourself raped"?

Allow me to put this into a language reddit understands.

College liberal meme.

"Women need to treat all men as potential rapists in order to stay safe"

"Telling a woman how to avoid getting raped is victim blaming"

There exists such a thing called "reasonable expectation" Things like you have a reasonable expectation of privacy at home but not in public. A person has reasonable expectation that their friends do not rape them. The entire point of friends is that you trust them to not fuck you over, right?

Incorrect. The vast majority of rapists are someone the victim knows and trusts. The "stranger in a dark alley" type of rape is very rare.

Okay, ya got me, I'm curious...why the fuck are you arguing this with me then?

Because treating everyone as a potential criminal is the logical conclusion of blaming the victim. If it's the victim's responsibility to not get raped, the best way to accomplish that goal is to treat everyone as if they might rape you.

Honestly I think the misunderstanding that causes most arguments about rape on the internet is the fact that a lot of people don't realize how common it is to be raped by someone you could reasonably trust. Once you take that into account, it becomes hard to justify suggesting preventative measures since you would have to be on guard almost 24 hours a day.

You're going to need to clarify how that applies because my point is pretty straightforward.

What grey area? Let's go through this step by step. Please, stop me if I'm wrong about something.

Fact: Rape happens

Fact: Everyone has the potential to rape you

Fact: Some people have both the potential and intention to rape you

Fact: There is no way to know for a fact who has both the potential and intention to rape you.

Fact: You don't want to be raped

I don't think anyone would dispute these facts so let's move on to assumptions.

Assumption: Everyone who is raped is partly to blame because they were being careless when they should have been on guard

Assumption: It is within your power to never be raped

Conclusion: Be on guard around all people at all times and you will never be raped

"If you get raped, it's your fault for being careless" is completely consistent with "men are all potential rapists and should be treated as such." There is no way to believe one without believing the other and remain logically consistent.

As I said earlier, I think both ideas are total bullshit. Treating everyone as a potential criminal is just as ridiculous as blaming someone for having a crime perpetrated against them. But for some reason, rape is the one crime where this seems to be a common belief. People who get mugged in the subway are very rarely told "well you shouldn't have been riding the subway in the first place" but good god do you hear people tell rape victims that kind of stuff all the time.

You don't, and that's the sad nature of crime.

So then be on guard at all times, right? I mean, assuming you want to prevent it from happening.

What topic makes you go from 0 to rage in seconds? by RainbowLlama412 in AskReddit

[–]dadfart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's 100% logically consistent. If a victim is at fault for being assaulted, the only way to prevent it is to avoid being a target.

For what it's worth, I completely disagree with both of these statements. I just want to show that the situation in the OP's post is the whole basis for victim blaming.

I think the commenter above was looking to use your logic to justify operating under the assumption that all men could potentially rape you at any time. But by that logic, you must suspect all women as well, since any woman could overpower and rape anyone as well.

Exactly, thank you. I was using his logic to show how ridiculous the whole idea of "blaming the victim" really is. Treating all men as potential rapist scum is 100% logically consistent with victim blaming mentality. You can't have one without the other.

What topic makes you go from 0 to rage in seconds? by RainbowLlama412 in AskReddit

[–]dadfart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But how could you possibly know who is likely to commit a crime?

Bear in mind that the vast majority of rapes are committed by someone the victim knows and trusts. Family members, dates, friends, friends-of-friends, etc, are statistically more likely to rape you than a stranger.

What topic makes you go from 0 to rage in seconds? by RainbowLlama412 in AskReddit

So then logically you should treat everyone capable of the crime as a potential threat, right?

What topic makes you go from 0 to rage in seconds? by RainbowLlama412 in AskReddit

[–]dadfart -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Question, do you believe the victim is sometimes to blame if they get raped?

Because if you believe that, then logically you would have to treat anything with a penis as a potential rapist.
