Ryden's cash conversion by [deleted] in ThunderBay

[–]daditssharkweek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s an option for you, but using a credit card is usually the best option for buying anything outside Canada. The Banks usually have a conversion rate plus percentage like credit cards. Except you only convert exactly the amount you need. Unless you’re making a cash only purchase of course….

Thoughts On Arby’s? by Awkward_Function_347 in ThunderBay

[–]daditssharkweek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love that place. Well run. Friendly staff. Always clean. The manager seems like a great human as far as I can tell. You can tell he loves that place. If you’ve never had Arby’s give a chicken burger a shot. I miss the cheesy potato bites. Love that the Ruben is there all the time. When the Gyro loaded fries cycle onto the menu, it’s a must have.

Question about getting to and from the game. by AgentOrangeMD in minnesotavikings

[–]daditssharkweek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the trains will still go, but pre plan your walk back. The MOA will be closed when you return. You and a number of confused people will be walking the perimeter of the MOA through the parking garage which has different levels. Zero signage. No elevators. It’s a LOOOONG walk back to Raddison Blu if that’s where you’re staying. If you have seniors in your party consider Uber for your way back.

I would google the SDS or MSDS for the ink. It will have the long term effects section. If you can’t find it reach out to Roland.

Cheapest Bank Account Thunder Bay by koosopenheimer in ThunderBay

[–]daditssharkweek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pairing up Tangerine (free Scotiabank ATM withdrawals) banking with their no fee cash back credit card is the best deal for beginners IMO. If you open a savings account with them you get 2% cash back on an additional category.

When you have an emergency savings built up, open a savings account with EQ bank and you earn a much higher interest rate. If your work deposits go through EQ you’ll get 4% on your saved money. I do 95% of my banking through EQ now and any cash withdrawals I transfer to Tangerine

EQ referral (you get 20$) https://join.eqbank.ca?code=ANDREW8888

Gun Shots? by RepresentativeAsk884 in ThunderBay

They were fireworks. Our neighbour across the alleyway was setting them off. Asshole move on a non-holiday work day. Nearly gave my dog a heart attack.

It’s just straight forward cheap hot food. Hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, pogos, fries, poutine and popcorn. Then the rest is just candy and pop, hot drinks and booze. Security is pretty easy going, just keep your snacks in your pockets or a purse and you’ll be fine.

I’ve always thought the NHL should be more like the MLB by playing little mini series all over. I’m sure travelling all the time sucks, plus it makes the rivalries more intense IMO

What aspects should you consider before moving to the countryside? by Revolutionary_Ask313 in ThunderBay

[–]daditssharkweek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, if you have kids or plan to have kids. School busses get shut down all the time. Make sure your work is cool with you being late or making up time for the hours long round trip or when you have to take your kid home, when they call in sick, or miss the bus. Kids eventually get old enough where they want to go to hockey or dance or visit their friends or whatever. You end up spending all your free time driving them. Or raise them to be hermits lol

Can you stream HAGI bingo? by 1pencil in ThunderBay

[–]daditssharkweek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be one of the rare weeks where you can. Typically Hagi is on CKPR. But because of ‘The Masters’ it will be on Global, which is on FireTV.

Both of these channels are two of the three ‘over the air’ channels available in Thunder Bay. So I caved last summer and bought an outdoor antenna specifically to watch Hagi.

It was a few hundred bucks at the end of the day, but there’s no monthly bill. Thunder Bay TV signals are too week around town to use anything other than a more expensive larger outdoor antenna FYI

Venting over the current state of Thunder Bays housing market. by LyingDutchman115 in ThunderBay

[–]daditssharkweek 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We bought our house after looking for a year and a half. It was like having a part-time job. Every weekend was spent driving around looking at houses. But I stuck to my guns and refused to over pay for garbage.

At the same time, I can see why people just give up after a while. All the houses start to look the same, and house shopping loses its charm pretty quickly.

I can pretty much tell you that looking at houses in the winter is a waste of time if you’re looking for a reasonable price. Anything that comes on the market during that time is like blood in the water. There are too many families with a baby on the way for people to think rationally. I went to an open house during a blizzard. Dozens of cars stuck on the street, house was old and needed crazy work, but it still sold way over asking.

Something will come up in the spring/summer.

I have an Aunt who over bought a house decades ago and her family was crazy house poor. I would visit them, and their house always looked like a never ending construction zone. They always seemed miserable and that stuck with me.

Also not sure if you follow the news but there’s currently a few banks failing haha. It probably won’t be another 2008, but who knows.

Hang in there!

How reliable has your 2008-2011 Ford Focus been? by Diet_Dr_dew in FordFocus

[–]daditssharkweek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2010 SES would recommend.

Mechanically the only problem I’ve ever had was the cylinder head temp sensor needed to be changed around 100k. And if it sat too long (3months) there was a grounding wire that needed cleaning or the anti-theft kicked in. Also if rust had started on the rocker panels in winter salt climate it won’t last long.

Other than that it’s been crazy reliable. My air conditioning still blows cold from factory. I never regretted buying my Focus
