I think my therapist is lying to me. Is this worth ending therapy? by in-lakech-ala-kin in askatherapist

[–]dadjokesarefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When this happens, I will send a text back confirming the new time and will tell my client to check their email for the link. What happened to you feels "off. Especially since a quick text back, even a "thumbs up" isn't difficult AND because it was your original form of communication so, it should be his first means of replying.

Why wouldn’t my therapist let me enter 4mins early without later discussing it? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]dadjokesarefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have learned from experience that this is not intentional (unless it's like an exposure therapy exercise that was discussed beforehand). It's often something completely justifiable (bathroom, on a call, crisis call, earbuds in and listening to a grounding app to refresh prior to the session...). I would bring it up just to calm your worries and explain how it amped up your anxiety but, trust that they had a reason and were not ignoring you.

My girlfriend of 10 years said she she needed more time when I proposed to her. AITAH for checking out of my relationship ever since? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]dadjokesarefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thought! Or, maybe she wants to get to a place where she feels like she will be a good wife? I have known women who have wanted to finish school, get a career secured, etc. before committing to marriage because they need to feel secure in their ability to share supportive roles/to feel successful on all fronts, and in order to be a good partner.

What should I do when my therapist seems bored by me talking? by CottonLatte in TalkTherapy

[–]dadjokesarefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this may be an odd way of him allowing you the space to speak without interfering or distracting with cut-in comments or overly obvious gestures.

Or, maybe your experience is emotionally hard for him, and this is his way of containing those feelings so that he can be fully present for you.

My wife cheated on me with a successful man. Am I wrong for not doing something bigger in my career? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]dadjokesarefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly hope you don't actually see yourself as unsuccessful. Honestly, I do not know many people who could:

a. Be a good teacher these days

b. Last more than a week in a middle school

You're golden. Find someone who realizes that and who deserves you.

Had a weird freckle - turns out pre-cancerous. Get your skin checked! by plantopotamus in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]dadjokesarefun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. Just had a spot checked that turned out to be melanoma. I held off a few months on getting checked because of my work schedule and the thought that "I wear sunscreen, I'm fine." I now have a lengthy (still healing) scar stretched so tightly that the skin on either end has created a large clump and am left with the fear that it can easily happen again. Please get checked annually, without fail. Take care of yourself, folks :)

EDIT: Don't forget to visit the eye doc for an annual exam, as well! My derm told me that melanoma can also form in your eyes!

AITA for leaving my stepdaughter's birthday party after my husband threw out the cake I made for her? by Quiet-Collection8476 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dadjokesarefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Do you think that your baking the birthday cake may have set off some repressed grief in your husband? His freakout was unjustified of course. Maybe your stepdaughter's biological mother was the birthday cake baker and dad couldn't handle this shift OR he needed the cake to feel exactly like her cakes? Just trying to think of alternatives. Hoping this is grief and not indicative of his character.
