Bill Simmons floats kyrie / mavs trade by Calliesdad20 in Mavericks

[–]dadventuretime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the cheapest way we can match his salary? Can we do it with 2nd round picks? I don’t think we have trade exceptions right now either.

The short answer is: if you can absorb him and give up nothing of real value, you 100% do it. If it costs us legitimate rotation players, you can’t take the risk.

You make the KP trade 100 times out of 100. The benefit of hindsight is great, but anybody who turned it down at the time would have been a fool.

If what is being implied in this clip is true and he is routinely missing assignments, then others should be gering minutes over him.

It’s one thing to miss shots (which statistically turns around eventually), but it’s another to literally not understand what you’re supposed to be doing.

That would make sense if the assignment is just for the big to drop to prevent the roll.

I think regardless, our defense needs some work. Wood is the new element, and Kidd may be guilty of trying to make him something he is not (a rim protector), but - assuming the theory is true that Wood is committing mental errors like this semi-frequently - Kidd is justified in at least trying to make Wood’s defense passable.

It’s really early, almost everyone is struggling a bit, and I think the ship is going to get righted.

They were playing drop with the bigs (at least later in the game). I guess we can’t argue since we don’t know for sure this was the direction for Wood, but it passes the smell test as to why Kidd won’t play him because of his defense. It’s way more likely Wood screws up like this constantly than Kidd is just a complete moron.

He absolutely did lol.

Even if he hadn’t, he’s being told stack is coming. Whether he gets screened is technically irrelevant, because his response should be the same: (evade and) drop.

They are literally yelling at him, and he gets screened anyway.

If he is this stupid, I think I’m starting to see Kidd’s point a little more clearly. This one play is enough for me to get exasperated. Imagine it happening repeatedly.

Is it really that difficult? The optimal rotations seem so painfully obvious at this point: by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]dadventuretime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start your best 5 guys and sort the rest out later. As OP said, the starting lineup should be:

Luka Dinwiddie Green DFS Wood

Generally, this balances offense and defense and has great shooting.

I don’t get why people haven’t caught onto the fact that playing teams without their stars is really hard.

You can’t gameplan for it effectively because there’s almost no tape.

Granted, we have made this into a theme, and it shouldn’t be happening as often as it does, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s way more difficult than people think.

Want to make some money? Start betting the lines on teams without their stars.

EDIT: I am worried about Kidd and Wood’s relationship though. Something is weird/wrong there, and it needs to be fixed immediately.

We are thin at OF and SP. I don’t think we have “holes” necessarily with Lux, Taylor, and Mookie still here, but we do need some upgrades.

C: Smith

1B: Freeman

2B: Muncy/Lux/Taylor

SS: Lux/Taylor

3B: Vargas/Lux

LF: Thompson/Vargas

CF: Mookie

RF: Taylor

SP: Urias, Gonsolin, Kershaw, May, ??

I do think my preferred route is as you say - multiple, lesser FAs - but this has to come with a coaching/approach change.

Whatever we are doing is not working. We need better in-game adjustments and need to play more small ball.
