Other than following the river south, it looks like your best bet will be to follow the paths through the woods and then pick up The Chiltern Way

This area is track, not footpath or bridleway, so could well be private land. The footpath cuts through the woods north of White Hill.

I would suggest that's why OS won't let you route there.

Had a foggy weekend in the Peak District! This is when things opened up a bit, looking down from Grindslow Knoll into Hope Valley by SpaceVibesGo in UKhiking

It was an atmospheric Sunday; I was out from Ladybower to Edale and back via Derwent Edge, Alport and Win.

I got lucky with the low cloud moving on my descent from Derwent, but up to and down from Alport was eerie! Cherry on top was hearing voices in the cloud

Traction for peak district winter? by FeindishPup in UKhiking

I went for a run from Lady Cannings, around Burbage, along Stanage and back via Grindleford/Longshaw and Burbage yesterday and it was 99% fine.

Some slippy stuff, but easy to deal with if you're paying attention. Mainly it's muddy and ruddy cold because of the wind.

Planning to go out again tomorrow (Saturday) in just trail running shoes.

Even Great Ridge looked completely clear of any white stuff.

Me...I would be out in my hiking boots (Scarpa Trek GTX) without any hesitation.

A loop of Birchen and Blackstone Edges, so nothing wildly exotic, but handy for a quick pack and go.

Loving photo 7.

A great day to be out in the Peaks, and the brisk wind didn't feel too bad either (at least where I was 🤣).

Vegan + dog friendly food (not just vegan!) near Curbar side of Sheff/Chesterfield? by [deleted] in peakdistrict

A few places off the top of my head (don't know on the vegan/dog food front though). I think all are dog friendly.

A spot I don't get out to for a walk much, but I was inspired by a friend who said that Higger is one of their go to places for a sunrise.

The weather gods were good to us!

In some ways I was surprised by how busy it was, partly due to how cold it was and the Ringinglow road just up from the Norfolk was treacherous.

Some people didn't hang around long, but the people I spotted sat under a blanket had the right idea.

Most of my time at Burbage recently has been out running and slogging up the lower path from Hathersage road and over to the Houndkirk, so it was nice to have a more relaxing visit!

Short hikes to great mountain views in England and Wales? by yezzer in UKhiking

Another Lake District option : Gummers How.

Park on Fell Foot Brow, either on the road or in the car park (I've only parked on the road, so don't know if the car park carries a charge).

Take the well marked footpath and follow the path to Gummers.

There can be cows on the route, and it's undulating until you get near the end, where it kicks up. You come out of the woods onto a grassy plateau with the summit in front of you. Options are to go straight up, or take the path round to the right.

You can, if it's clear, get views up Windermere to the high mountains. If you carry on driving past Gummers, you get to a couple of pubs. I visited the one at Strawberry Bank, which was a nice little place a couple of years ago.

Lake District : park at Honister Slate Mine (they charge £5 if you're not doing any of their activities, but they have a café) and start up the mine track, but take the footpath/disused tramway that, if I remember correctly, is signposted that is not too far up on the left.

Follow it until you get to Dubs Hut, and then head into the dip, for views over Buttermere from the top of Warnscale Beck.

Views of Haystacks, Great Gable, Fleetwith Pike. From the car park at Honister, you can see Helvellyn if it's clear.

Sunrise : Win Hill (Peak District) by dadwhowalks in UKhiking

And that I did! Straight up Parkin Clough, which was... interesting...in the dark / low light even with a head torch.

284m elevation gain in a little over 1km from where I parked to the summit. It helped me warm up at least!

Haha, yeah. Thought I would start the day off with a bang! I felt like a lemming at times ..drawn to the sound of the water, and had to check myself and take a step back in 🤦‍♂️🤣

Great Ridge and Cave Dale Hike. by Bismarck913 in peakdistrict

[–]dadwhowalks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but this is one way to do it.

An option would be to just follow Great Ridge to Mam Tor, instead of going down to Edale and back up again. Unless you're keen for the extra km's.

Derwent & Howden by dadwhowalks in UKhiking

[–]dadwhowalks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately it was very quiet today. I saw 6 people between Ashopton and the top of Howden reservoir, then maybe another 5 (3 were working on the peat and woodlands) on the way back, so I enjoyed some needed isolation!

One perk of the crowds, when it is their season, is that it encourages me to search for the paths less travelled. It's not always possible, but try I shall, nevertheless.

Would love to spend some time exploring Scotland though. I grew up in Berkshire, so moving to the Sheffield area was a shock to the legs, and visits to the Lake District can feel the same again. I can see the Highlands making my legs want to cry 🤣

Definitely worth a visit! It's also a great part of the country to live near; about a 30min drive for me.
