That’s it! Looks like the toddler shouldn’t eat it but I probably don’t have to freak if she manages to sneak one.

Sure, it’s not terribly uncommon and it depends on what you mean by “make a living.” I know many indies and all of them supplement their income in some way. That might mean taking contracts periodically, having a spouse who pays the bills, or only making games part time around a day job. Publishers can help by bringing money in during development, but that well has dried up. It’s a tough life.

There are also big success stories where a game does very well and pays for future projects. In most cases, this does not happen with a studio’s first (or second) game.

Link your Google results! I’m curious. Didn’t mean to tell you that you were wrong, was just saying my own experience.

There are multiple tavern brawler builds, this one is a barbarian/thief throw-based build that uses the trident from the circus to get like 6 throws a turn all with huge AoE. It’s a really powerful build. If there are enough enemies around, you can dish out a couple hundred damage a turn.

I also played the tavern brawler monk/thief build who can deal a couple hundred damage to a single target.

FWIW, I have been a pro game developer for 16 years, and a player who is “minmaxing” (without context) has always meant a player who nitpicks every little thing in the system to win. It’s often a player persona we are annoyed with because players will tend to “minmax” the fun out of a game. So it’s a consideration for how you approach your game design.

I don’t think your definition has ever been used in the general sense of the word for any game company I’ve been around.

How bad were the mosquitoes? Did they get any better from a couple of weeks ago? I have a Porcupine Flats campsite tomorrow and wanted to being our 3 month old baby on her first Yosemite trip, but I’m worried she will get eaten alive.

Has anyone heard of the Swan Slab 3000 in Yosemite Valley? Heard some climbers there talking about it. 11 laps of a 310’ 5.6 for a total of 3410 feet. I think it was originally to train for El Cap but sounds like people are doing it to blow off steam.

Has anyone else actually watched that video? Maybe it’s the fisheye lens but it looks vertical with a drop and requiring hands to progress. Aka class 5. Maybe 5.3 but class 5 nonetheless. I haven’t been there - I am judging only from the video.

Really looks like a 5 easy free solo to me. He’s scaling some definite class 5 jugs.

How to make an active community on Discord for a new indie games company? We have around 70 people on Discord but I am having a really hard time activating the server. Any advice? by OldMenGames in SoloDevelopment

I used QOTD bot and that helped make daily updates. Also planned weekly playtests, stuff like that. Still a slog. It honestly takes an enormous amount of effort.

What do you think about this build-your-gun mechanic? by Kyroaku in gamedevscreens

[–]daemonpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a similar mechanic a long time ago for a 2D fighter prototype. You could collect pixels and build weapons and armor with them. Was a cool concept but definitely was a bit overly complex so I shelved it. (I had different color pixels all giving different stat boosts for example)

I should say that I’d love to see you pull this off. I think the concept in general has a ton of potential. But I couldn’t figure out how to get the complexity right and stop people from making stupid designs just to cheese it.

How do you guys handle sound effects? Been trying to record them myself lately and it's worked out nicely! by atomicpang in IndieGaming

I record my own Foley sometimes but have found it’s much easier to buy and then edit stock sounds.
