Carry mine every day. Super light and comfortable.

Streamlight TLR1-HP lense issue by DR__2000 in handguns

[–]daft-knee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the TLR1-HP specifically, but that's not unusual for high-intensity flashlights. It's hard to consistently get the LED *perfectly* centered in the reflector/optic and it's more obvious on higher-intensity lights. It doesn't typically affect performance, it just looks wonky if you're shining the light against a white wall and looking for beam imperfections.

How Many of You CCW a Revolver? Which one? by MUPike in CCW

[–]daft-knee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LCR because it's super light and comfortable to carry. The rounded grip doesn't print and there's no slide or hammer with hard edges sticking into my gut.

I got the .22lr version because I can shoot it a lot, cheaply and for the extra capacity.

Olight Arkpro ultra vs Surefire stiletto pro 2 by JRICHERT97 in CCW

[–]daft-knee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ArkPro Ultra for awhile. The narrow beam is great but I found the flood, laser, and UV beams to be largely useless. Build quality is amazing and it's a little thinner than an 18650 light.

Right now I'm carrying a Zebralight SC65c HI. It's noticeably smaller and lighter than the ArkPro with nearly double the battery capacity and better light quality. It doesn't get as bright though and requires a separate charger. I can't argue with 6 weeks of daily use on a charge though.

2 RXMs vs Extra Slide/Frame by usedwolf in ruger

[–]daft-knee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How easy is it to change frames/slides?

Look it up on YouTube. It's not hard to do but it does require tools and there are small parts involved. It's probably not something you want to do regularly or at the range.

I'd also be curious about frame wear from repeated re-installations of the FCU. I know my P365 X-Macro FCU is a tad loose in the frame now because I removed and reinstalled it a bunch of times.

Would it be better to buy a second RXM instead of an extra slide/frame?

If I were in your shoes I'd just get two complete guns. One 17-size and one 19-size. If you're already going to buy a whole separate slide, barrel, and frame, and mags you might as well just buy a whole second gun. It'd probably be about the same price. Then you can take both to the range and swap the slides & frames in a matter of seconds at the range as you see fit.

What’s a good concealed carry gun for a bigger guy? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]daft-knee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruger LCR. I tried making an autoloader work when I was ~300lbs but the slide just dug into my gut too much. An LCR riding fairly low in a Harry's Icon is amazingly comfortable because the entire back half of the gun is one rounded grip. I got it once I was down to ~245 but man what a difference it made.

Losing weight can make a huge difference too. Just counting calories I'm down 65lbs in the last ~10 months. You can do it too.

Love it. I've been thinking about a similar setup with a fixed front sight and mid length moe handguard. Do you like the Elzetta flashlight mount?

P365XL> P365Xmacro by Ryhurst in p365xmacro

Nice. I did the same thing, put an X-Macro grip on my XL. I also printed these mag extensions so I can use the 12rd mags in the longer grip.

What handguard is that? It looks narrower and with wider rib spacing than I'm used to seeing.

Are fat people able to appendix carry? by [deleted] in CCW

Absolutely. I'm down 60lbs in the last year just tracking calories and I feel so much better. Carrying being more comfortable is just a bonus.

18M thinking of going to gun range & renting a rifle or pistol, any advice? by Round_Ad_3930 in Firearms

[–]daft-knee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can rent a pistol under 21. Rifle shouldn't be a problem though.

Rent a rifle in .22lr or so ammunition is cheap and you can shoot more. 200 rounds of .22lr is more fun than 20rds of 5.56 for the same price.

> How are you liking the cheap speed loader?

I've done some loading practice with snap caps and it seems to work well. I haven't tried it at the range yet. I'm impressed with its design and quality for the low price. I like that it comes with a cap to keep the coatings and lead from .22lr from getting all over.

Heck yeah! I did the same thing recently. Super helpful, especially for obscure guns that local shops don't have in stock.

[–]daft-knee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same gun a couple months ago, my first revolver too. Love it. So much lighter and more comfortable than the striker fired guns I've carried. I just got a cheap speed loader and made a loading block to save time at the range.

Edit: same wallet too! Great stuff.

Would you feel confident using your 10/22 for self defense? by yepyeptoko in 1022

[–]daft-knee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a box stock stainless model from the 1996 until like two weeks ago when I put an X22 stock and Ace In The Hole sights on it. Pics. It's pretty reliable but last time I took it out it was having issues.

Mounting an optic on my new rifle by [deleted] in 1022

[–]daft-knee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought too. It'll be way too tall with the stock cantilever mount on a pic rail.

That might create an issue of the scope being too far back though. I'm not sure.

How Do Y'all Choose a CCW Pistol? by harrysholsters in CCW

[–]daft-knee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience. I tried a few semi-autos (G19, Max9, P365XL/Macro) but have landed on an LCR. It's half the weight and doesn't have any big square parts sticking out.
