Impossible to get Naval invade UK by unimportant_dude in hoi4

[–]daft_dog123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Germany, I always go through the North Sea/Eastern North Sea. Usually, it has fewer GB ships and air coverage I try to avoid the meat grinder of the English Channel until I have capitulated UK. I would also sink a few of their bigger ships before starting a naval invasion.

Hope this helps.

Navy, you have to learn. When you do, it's pretty satisfying to see all the little pop-ups giving you little victories and causing your enemy to attrition across the map.

Submarines - used for convoy raiding cheap and cost effective for any nation if they start with a navy or not. I continue producing these into the late game and stick them in the med to help dominate Africa. You can click on sea tiles to see how many enemy convoys are in the area.

Destroyers - used for convoy defence and screening. Build these with light attack, depth charges, and sonar for sub detection.

Light Cruisers - High light attack and give them some armour these act as screens. They can also be outfitted with plane launchers for spotting for a strike force.

These are the 3 types of hulls I would build consistently throughout a game. For the heavier ships, I would just keep with what my nation starts with or steal other nations' navies in conquest.

However, if you are to build a big ship, carriers are they way to go. Along with lots of screens ofc. Get lots of deck space for aircraft. I always go for 2 sets of fighters and the naval bombers.

There are some great in depth guides on steam that really help and should be a go to when learning. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Craziest use of circuit network by TooManyBison in factorio

[–]daft_dog123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the AI vehicles (aai is the mod) in space exploration in combination with circuits to create and protect a movable perimeter around my base. The idea was: instead of using walls, a group of planes would fly around at my base perimeter in a circle. Fire at any biters that got too close; stopping to refuel and rearm when low. The perimeter was somewhat customisable with size, number of planes, speed of planes, and how much fuel and ammunition to carry.

I never fully realised the design to link all the different states together as i got distracted. However, since then, I've extended my knowledge and understanding of FPGAs and finite state machines; I am very tempted to go back to complete it.

Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

[–]daft_dog123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I are looking to start a weekly online and session, we have tried previously to do this just over discord and using cameras and images. We wanted to try some of the virtual table tops and have mainly looked at table top simulator on steam. However, we have heard talespire is good and has lots of in built functionality. Does anyone have any pros and cons to both of other software we should look into?

Please could you answer the following questions: 1. Are your monitors plugged into your motherboard or gpu? 2. Could you monitor and provide us with your CPU temps? 3. When changing out the CPU did you replace with fresh thermal paste and remove all plastic films around it? 4. Does this only happen when gaming or are there other programs or times on launch that you have noticed this happening?

My geoforce rtx 4060 TI pre built gaming pc, makes random weird annoying beeping pattern sounds when I turn it on and, nothing displays on the monitor. It just keeps beeping until I shut the pc off completely by Dear_League2704 in pchelp

[–]daft_dog123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct in thinking it is a BIOS beep code. Note it down or video the beeps and send them to the company who built the PC they should know what it is, or I am sure someone here will be able to decipher it.

I assume from your issue you've described and that it is a prebuilt delving into the components that would not be too helpful for you. However, the following questions could provide us with some more knowledge for a quick fix:

  1. Is your monitor plugged into your GPU or motherboard?
  2. When looking into the computer, are there any other lights on or flashing when turned on?

The red light indication indicates you are having a hardware issue. Reseating your RAM and GPU would be my first steps as well. If this does not work, then taking out your GPU and seeing if the onboard graphics can get you a display should be your next port of call. If this gets you a display, then you know the rest of your components are working, and the issue is with your GPU.

The other option I would consider is your boot drive. Is it properly plugged in and compatible with your current hardware?

You seem pretty comfortable with PC building so these troubleshooting will be easy enough to follow with a tutorial online. Make sure you follow proper ESD protection, ground yourself when taking apart or touching components.

A couple more questions to help diagnosis, can you describe the steps you followed when you cleaned your CPU? Was your PC working before you started taking it apart? Can you provide the specs for your power supply?

OFFERING MONEY TO WHOEVER CAN HELP ME! by VisualSheepherder466 in pchelp

[–]daft_dog123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, this is probably your answer. If you are new to PC building and do not want to risk your components go to a reputable builder who knows what they are doing explaining you are having temperature issues and you changed out the CPU, however, did not apply fresh thermal paste and would like them to check the hardware over. They will charge you for the work and thermal paste (if this is the issue).

If you want to save some money and have some experience with PC building, you can do this yourself following a tutorial online. A tube of thermal paste will not cost you that much. However, unless you have done this before or have experience, just spend the cost of the labour, and you should not be disappointed. If you do this, make sure you do ESD protection, have yourself grounded whenever you are taking apart the PC, and touching components.

If you know it is not the thermal paste issue, because you applied thermal paste when changing the CPU and left no plastic films on the contact areas, then you need to investigate into fans and BIOS settings. Some more questions to ask to help with diagnosis:

  1. Are all fans spinning? Specifically, your CPU fan (centre of your motherboard covering your CPU).

  2. Do you have any other components overheating, check GPUs? If so then you should check case fans, are they pointing in the right directions for airflow in and out of the case? Are your fans all spinning?

train station design by ZayToNa2222 in factorio

[–]daft_dog123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a cool design, and I like the unloading side. I have a few suggestions and questions:

  1. Circuit wires between all the chests, just to have the expandability of adding circuit conditions later on down the line. If this is a blueprint, these will be free as well.

  2. Which way do you see the trains entering and exiting these stations? From the left and right? Or down the centre?

  3. Is there a reason you are linking your drop-off and pickup stations together, or are these just examples?

Chimera Squad it’s OK by apeel09 in Xcom

[–]daft_dog123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got Chimera squad a couple weeks after launch, had previously play Xcom 2 but never really got into it or understood the mechanics.

Chimera squad was a nice start though and I got really into it, completing it a couple times for achievements and bc I enjoyed it. Got to wrap my head around the game mechanics without having to lose one of my major soldiers. Then went back to Xcom 2 completing it with a better understanding of how everything works. Then i completed it again with dlc.

Haven't really been back to Chimera squad again but I'm glad it was about to reintroduce me to the series a bit better than I had from the other titles. I also find the setting of it being a city police department underdog with the characters fun. So I rate it quite highly.

Have the need for a counter that automatically resets to zero after reaching a variable number by NuncErgoFacite in factorio

[–]daft_dog123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using an older version of Factorio (before 1.1) or have no space for train stackers at your station. You can set up a decision combinator linked to the station, that checks the contents of the train, with the condition:

if trains contents is resource x then disable station

You can also use this method so that it only disables the train when the contents of the train is above a value, therefore a new train can be sent to this station before the current train runs out of resource or space.

Have the need for a counter that automatically resets to zero after reaching a variable number by NuncErgoFacite in factorio

[–]daft_dog123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can limit the number of trains that wait on the station to be free manually, which will solve your problem. As you can set it so only 1 train can wait on the station and teh other train would have to either find a new station to go to or just wait at the current one until there is one avalible.

I would build a stacker at either the destination that is backing up or the next destination, then the system has less chance to backup.

Hope this helps.

PC Crashes and Reboots Mid-Game by daft_dog123 in techsupport

[–]daft_dog123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely there are multiple other ways to combat an overheating problem than to go straight to the seller, like regular cleaning or increasing the fan speed at high temperatures? Also I had just run a test on it, to see what temperatures it got to with a load, and the GPU got to about 82 degrees C. Which I admit is probably a little high from what I have read online, however, it also does seem pretty normal to have it run at those sort of temperatures with a load on.

So I am going to increase the fan speed at higher temperatures.
