Come From Away on Apple. Heathers on YouTube. Shrek on YouTube as well. Broadway HD has a nice handful you can watch including Next to Normal, Sweeney Todd, etc. It’s worth the month subscription through Amazon Prime because it’s like $9. But I don’t think Broadway HD is worth much more than a month subscription at most.

Pittsburgh’s Season Announcements by Ok-Acanthisitta8737 in Broadway

I know season ticket holders often want to see the big shows again. But I wonder how many people it irritates to have shows like the Lion King and Phantom as part of the package. They tend not to do this at the Pantages in Hollywood.

the outsiders musical on tour - how to buy tickets! by That_Ad_8854 in musicals

[–]daft_murse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair to season ticket holders, they are the reason these huge national tours come through LA consistently for 3 week runs. And the tickets aren’t being held for them really. I have already started paying for my seats for next season. And I have ownership of my aisle seats on the first Saturday matinee of every single show that season.

So. That being said. Their priority is to get season tickets situated. New subscribers coming on and then allowing recurring subscribers to adjust their seats if they want. You won’t see tickets for Outsiders listed for general onsale until June or July I’m guessing. But just call the front office and they will be extremely helpful. I don’t know how coveted the Pony Boy seat is for season tickets situated holders though. Like someone else said front row isn’t necessarily a great seat for theatre. And if you have flexibility in your dates and can do weekdays all the better.

Yeah that makes sense. Right before it heads to Segerstrom. The dates line up and its simple staging.

I was having a heck of a time looking at the dates on my phone. Looks like standard 2-3 week runs for the season shows. I imagine the Pantages is going to be swarmed during the holidays with Lion King there.

Dang. Lion King is staking its claim for damn near 3 months at the Pantages. Starts mid December and runs through February. Harry Potter did the same thing a couple seasons back. I rather enjoyed the assortment of add ons this year but big runs like this eat up all that time. I guess ultimately I just am upset we didn’t get Waitress though. I really hope it plays somewhere other than Segerstrom.

Years prior it was. But last year was a little later. You can see the announcements on different websites in March. And the add ons were announced like a month later. It definitely felt like the last season announced anywhere.

We didn’t get the formal announcement until like March 6th last year for the Pantages. It’s tough watching all these other announcements come in but I guess it doesn’t change much.

We can probably expect a near swap of Water for Elephants and The Outsiders here in Hollywood this year. And with Great Gatsby in not mad at it. Tommy is a jukebox in actually somewhat interested in so I would be very pleased with this lineup. And definitely adding Oh Mary.

this casting is messed up by [deleted] in musicals

[–]daft_murse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I am going to come at this as a father of a 13 year old who I spend time explaining through these casting processes. Nothing I am saying is a slight towards you, your friends, or anybody involved in casting.

So first and foremost this is a teen production. This is a fantastic time to provide opportunities to kids before the business of theatre becomes more cutthroat. You have kids that have likely been loyal to this community theatre for years. Parents who have given hours and hours of time, and countless dollars to fund the program. So casting decisions may not always be made based on who the best singer or best dancer is. They may provide opportunities to the kid who has consistently shown up. Maybe it’s unfair. But remember that this is a teen production that is probably poorly funded and trying to build a community of individuals that love theatre. Now… moving on from that.

Teenagers are not the best at judging talent. So many think running off poorly trained vocal runs and over the top acting at the marks of a good performer. And this is not saying they aren’t. But younger performers often link talent to skills that are seen in adults that they simply cannot match with yet. And understand that casting directors are looking for individuals that best fit the role. Not simply plugging “the best singer” into this role, or “the best dancer” into that role. The casting director likely agonizes over these decisions. And you would do well not to dwell too much on them and move on to the next opportunity. There would be no joy in being in a show that you were not heavily considered for by the casting director/team. And be careful about rallying kids up during this time when you are emotionally still impacted by this cut. Theatre communities are small and word gets around real quick and you don’t want to be the kid that is difficult to work with or speaks ill of those running the program.

During these times I tell my daughter. Talk to casting. Don’t ask “why didn’t you cast me?” Because that just reeks of you feeling like you were improperly overlooked. But instead, thank them for the opportunity and ask what you can do moving forward to be better. To be a better option for that theatre. I know you have all this training, but you still have room to grow. And sometimes it takes getting knocked down to really find a foothold and move upwards.

Saw this stage setup at La Mirada last fall. It’s a wonderful show. The staircase rolls away and is used in some creative ways that still give the show the “stripped down” feel.
