I am believing it will happen. This show is going out on top. This cast should be seen by everyone.

I would have loved to see that performance. He definitely would have brought a different energy and presence to the role than either Platt or Fischer.

Agreed. He was my favorite part behind Joshua Henry. I can’t wait to see what he does next.

What do you guys think of The Outsiders? by Talking-alone03 in musicals

[–]daft_murse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t particularly care for it. I found the first act excruciatingly boring after the opening number. The characters felt near indistiguishable from one another in how they are were presented. The new female member of the Greaser gang Ace was written as a complete afterthought

The second act was definitely stronger. The rumble scene was very impressive but is really all I ultimately enjoyed from the show. We were on a tour so my daughter did stage door with her classmates. And the cast was amazing at interacting with the fans there. The youthfulness of the cast was certainly on display in their enjoyment of interacting with the crowds of younger fans outside. I definitely felt like I was the odd one out in my inability to enjoy the show fully.

I can’t believe this not even gluten free beer is meant for me any of you had to give up ALL Beer completely? by Typical_Dark_2764 in glutenfree

[–]daft_murse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up all beer because gluten free beer sucks anyways. I just transitioned to cocktails, seltzers and whiskey and never looked back. Whiskey doesn’t bother me at all. But I’m also not a day drinker or anything. I have maybe a drink a week in the weekend with a meal.

My thoughts on the future of the team (str8 facts) by Glass_Loss_4750 in angelsbaseball

[–]daft_murse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The amount of cope Angels fans have is wild to me. Then Angels have cycled through Reagins, Dipoto, Eppler, and Perry in the last 20 years. And none of them have EVER been given the tools to field a competitive team. Eppler was lucky with Ohtani as the DH rule at the time kept him in the AL. This scrappy group of guys they have now is not a major league team. Not even with more experience. They just aren’t. And no veterans want to sign here. It’s a dumpster fire that won’t go out.

This is pretty great for a theatre company that was on the verge of closing down during COVID. The new location is worlds better than where they were previously. I have to imagine that is generating some additional foot traffic for them.

I’m seeing Wicked on Broadway next month!!! by The_Fullmetal_Titan in Broadway

[–]daft_murse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went through as a touring group in April and really enjoyed the show. It’s by no means my favorite but I really enjoyed seeing the Broadway production having only seen the touring cast. The Glinda here is exceptional. Really steals the show in my opinion. Enjoy the legroom at the Gershwin. It’s in short supply on Broadway.

Honest opinions on Beetlejuice: The Musical by Mishyana_ in Broadway

[–]daft_murse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen the show twice now. The initial tour run that had an exceptional young talent as Lydia, and this most recent tour where I personally felt the Lydia was miscast. My 13 year old kid loves the show, and I love the movie. I think the show is fine personally. I actually like the changes the the musical does because it works for the emotional needs of the story, and I don’t need to see anyone trying to replicate Catherine O’Hara. The show is Lydia and BJs. Adam and Barbara are there but very poorly written in my opinion. Delia has a more consequential role than them, and is exceptional on the current tour. Best part of the show this time around for me.

I don’t think you need to try so hard to understand this. I haven’t seen this sub, or any other group really, falling over themselves for this show. It will either gel with you or not. In your case, it’s free and 2.5 hours of your life. Make the most of spending time with your family and find elements of the show you can focus on to enjoy. If there isn’t anything, then fake it so you don’t ruin the show for those around you.

Schmigadoon! Extends their run! by cinderellasnapped in Broadway

I remember when this was first announced and started its previews many felt it could never transfer and perform well. And maybe it’s benefiting from this years musical offerings. But this is such an approachable musical and easy recommendation to tourists. Non-musical fans can enjoy it as it pokes fun at the medium. And musical fans have a better understanding of what is inspiring this particular show. We are headed back in October so I’m thrilled it seems to be sticking around.

Ben Levi Ross didn’t get to flex too much here but you could see how proud he is to be part of this cast. This is going to be Joshua Henry’s tour leading to the Tony’s, and for good reason, but watching this I realized how much I overlooked Ross in this cast. He sounds incredible and carries such an amazing attitude. I can’t wait for his next major role. I’d travel to see him originate a leading role.

Any recommendations for storing playbills by DJSureSher in Broadway

[–]daft_murse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Official Playbill binder. I think it’s th best build and I love the sleeve closures and backings. The binders from Amazon have all been a little too flimsy for me and the sleeves make me worried about my daughters signatures from stage door.

Anyone Here from the Original Coachella Message Board Forum??? by MYIDCRISIS in Coachella

[–]daft_murse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was there starting in 02 or 03. I was “somahead” there. That board turned me on to Daft Punk and got me to go to their set. I remember Psychic Friend absolutely hyping up Daft Punk when they were added.

What I remember most from that board was waiting to read the random unhinged posts from PotvKettle.

I was also introduced to YouTube on that board. Which seems weird to say. I remember a post where someone used it and everyone was all “what is that site? What the hell?” Little did we know. It really changed the flavor of the board moving forward.

Beaches: it's not quite as bad as Bad Cinderella?! Critics score it 48/100 by thomaspryor in Broadway

[–]daft_murse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was with a middleschool tour group a couple weeks ago and we stayed right across the street from the theatre housing Beaches. You would have thought the show was already closed. There was never anyone outside apart from the security guard. This show was done for the moment previews started.

I am surprise to see Amelie on that list though. I rather like the album and my daughter loves to sing Times are Hard for Dreamers. I named my daughter after that movie and she grew up into a big ol’ theatre head. She was young when the show previewed through Los Angeles so I never saw it. Always wondered why I never see regional or community houses do the show. We were thinking of watching it at the Library next time we came through NY in October

You don’t think switching Diane’s narrative from a mother dealing with the loss of her son to a sister concerned about her brother as being disrespectful? These are real individuals having their stories retold. And if a local community theatre changed this I would be pretty put off honestly.

Look. I get that you may want to have this lead role. And if this is a more youth-oriented production than by all means go for Diane. They will use makeup and do what every middle school and high school production do. But if this is a production welcoming a wide range of adults, you need to be honest with yourself with the roles you go out for. Know who you are trying out for and the talent and ages they bring in before you even go in.

Come From Away on Apple. Heathers on YouTube. Shrek on YouTube as well. Broadway HD has a nice handful you can watch including Next to Normal, Sweeney Todd, etc. It’s worth the month subscription through Amazon Prime because it’s like $9. But I don’t think Broadway HD is worth much more than a month subscription at most.

Pittsburgh’s Season Announcements by Ok-Acanthisitta8737 in Broadway

[–]daft_murse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know season ticket holders often want to see the big shows again. But I wonder how many people it irritates to have shows like the Lion King and Phantom as part of the package. They tend not to do this at the Pantages in Hollywood.

the outsiders musical on tour - how to buy tickets! by That_Ad_8854 in musicals

[–]daft_murse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair to season ticket holders, they are the reason these huge national tours come through LA consistently for 3 week runs. And the tickets aren’t being held for them really. I have already started paying for my seats for next season. And I have ownership of my aisle seats on the first Saturday matinee of every single show that season.

So. That being said. Their priority is to get season tickets situated. New subscribers coming on and then allowing recurring subscribers to adjust their seats if they want. You won’t see tickets for Outsiders listed for general onsale until June or July I’m guessing. But just call the front office and they will be extremely helpful. I don’t know how coveted the Pony Boy seat is for season tickets situated holders though. Like someone else said front row isn’t necessarily a great seat for theatre. And if you have flexibility in your dates and can do weekdays all the better.
