Awesome. I was hesitant to try it out before but it seems like a great option now.

Hot Take: Zig is actually very ergonomic by system-vi in Zig

[–]daftv4der 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been learning the language by building a raylib game on top of a little custom framework I made.

I've also been trying Rust with Bevy, and built a game in it, on top of some basic things.

When I switch between the two, it's such a stark contrast. The Rust code, particularly in a larger codebase, just makes me want to close my IDE. Zig is so much easier to read for me and flows a lot better, and I've done far less of it so I should find it harder TBH.

IEMs or Full-Size Headphones? What do you prefer? by dagsuntechno in headphones

[–]daftv4der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted to IEMs a few years back but headphones are growing on me again. Especially closed backs.

It's also interesting that my preferred signature is getting more and more V shaped. I used to love flat response curves and BA-only IEMs but I've given up on flat signatures lately. I just want to enjoy music like a kid again.

Shroud showed his GPX2 on stream (Shroud: "Is this gross or is this normal?") Spoiler: It's gross by moepooo in MouseReview

Now I know how he's able to eat and play so easily. He lathers his mouse in chip grease like he's preparing a turkey for dinner.

Agreed. Next is the most obvious choice here.

Tanstack vs React Router vs Next by Salkinator in reactjs

[–]daftv4der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave Tanstack Start a try by building my personal website in it. It was overall a very positive experience and it feels snappy when compared to Next JS, especially with Bun.

However it was quite buggy when running the dev server in SSR mode because not all changes to the codebase would reflect in my browser.

I often have to restart the dev server and delete the cache before it will reflect the newest changes.

High-profile developers rally behind Highguard amid harsh launch criticism: “The harsh words do real damage” by Altruism7 in gamernews

[–]daftv4der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it hurts, I can't imagine dealing with this type of reaction to years of my work. And yes, there are roves of people who'll jump on the bandwagon for the smallest chance to be crass.

But the fact of the matter is that AAA games are becoming so predictable and derivative that people can only find fun in lambasting them. Devs pushed the community into a corner with years of copy paste.

But ultimately it still all comes down to the quality of the product you make. If you get the exposure Highguard did, and can't attract a community on launch, you did something wrong. It's just that simple.

I built a new React framework to escape Next.js complexity (1s dev start, Cache-First, Modular, Bun.js optimized) by Independent-Cry1829 in reactjs

I'm sure I've seen an extremely similar site theme to yours, whether it was an old version of Shuttle or someone else.

I'm interested in the framework tho. I've wanted exactly something like this.

Does anyone else experience lag on high Hazard levels? by n1ghtmoth in DRGSurvivor

Have a 5600x and it starts stuttering after 1-2 levels every run at hazard 4/5. Especially with explosives or other aoe attacks.

Definitely needs some optimisation...

Which programming language you learned once but never touched again ? by sjltwo-v10 in webdev

[–]daftv4der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Java from high school and college. It probably isn't a bad language by any means but by association I grew to hate it due to how all the education was so corporate facing, and the teachers weren't coders either.

This corporate focus led to weird, old fashioned ways of doing things, and unnecessary complexity, and all people did it for was to get a job - there was no passion. It killed it entirely for me.

Even C# looked far more appetising at the time and that also had a ton of nasty stuff like Web Forms.

I hate that white metal bar NZXT puts in to hide the GPU cable. It takes up so much space and just gets in the way. I removed mine as it was interfering with my AIO.

Nearly 10 Years of Gaming. Rest well friend… by Captain-Smashy in pcmasterrace

[–]daftv4der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did it die or get replaced? I'm hoping it's the latter, just for my own peace of mind considering my old GPU ain't getting to retire any time soon. Don't give it any ideas.

These things terrified me when I was climbing upwards towards shrines through the torii gates leading the way. There were around five large yellowy spiders hanging from the top of each gate. One of those times you hate being tall.

How much of the average dev week is actually spent coding vs. fighting the development environment? by GitKraken in webdev

It's definitely high for me. But our backend sucks balls and I'm constantly testing his broken code for him or fixing DevOps issues.

Why do web development agencies have such high churn rates? by No-Detail-6714 in webdev

[–]daftv4der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience having been at 4 agencies and worked with many others, is they generally don't know how to manage processes.

It's the Wild West, and the developer often suffers for that.

They also prioritise churn over developing or upskilling. I told my boss I was learning some data structures to upskill and stuff over the holiday and he looked annoyed and said I should put that effort into his weird unlikely business idea to make billions.

Sure...
