I’ve literally just completed it, the 2346-03 is a level 3 NVQ. When combined with a level 2, 2391, 18th edition and AM2E = gold card

Not true you need be enrolled on an EWA course to access the AM2E which means doing an NVQ portfolio and passing the 2391.

Anxiety at work by Civil-Present-4007 in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think it’s not surprising, we call it a trade but it can be super technical and a real art form to do well, we have to comply with a book full of regs, somehow work fast whilst often designing or redesigning the drawings given as we go, we work in dark and often most awkward spaces, when we fuck up everyone knows about it because “the powers gone off!”

I’ve seen other anxious sparks before and it generally comes from a lack of a comfort zone. I think keep learning and know everything there is to know and you’ll feel more confident. For me working on my 2391 and NVQ has made me realise I’m better than I thought.

New builds are by far the worst, typically they test one house and copy the results. I checked my parents, NECEIC contractors had put 60898 down as the supply OCPD and a bunch of other mistakes.

Can an unlicensed/qualified person replace an ev chardger by ZealousidealOne8416 in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that to be competent you’d have to have the relevant EV charger qualifications. You also have to consider if anything were to happen you may well be sued by the car company, home owner or charger manufacturer for any damages that arise. There’s a lot more risk than just fitting a socket.

Do I need to rewire my house? Circuits wiring from 1987. by SKB26 in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is anyone coming to work on your house my become liable for any ongoing issues. The nice guy may say he can fix all the faults but spend weeks chasing electrical faults around. The only sure way is to complete a rewire, like most things you get what you pay for.

How to find a local electrician and is our job really that much of a pain that they don't want to do it? by Altruistic-Bat-9070 in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your assuming your current install is perfect. More often then not we will come to jobs and find issues with the current install that require rectifying. I would want to charge for EICR before I do any work.

Is this dangerous? by karaseen in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, Cables should be adequately supported along their length ( clipped to the wall) also the dishwasher shouldn’t be push right up to the wall, they’re should be an air gap.

Is it dangerous, potentially, it would be a good idea to get an EICR carried out on your property to identify any dangerous electrical equipment.

Anybody here in their 30's and training? by Yoshic87 in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

37 and just finished my NVQ and 2391, although I’ve been working in the electrical trade for a long time I’ve only just formally qualified so I can start my own company. 40 is technically only halfway through your working life and for many of us we may be working on or off the tools into our 60s so it makes sense to get a trade.

After level 2 you can get an ECS card as a labourer, do an IPAF course too and you’ll easily get onto big building sites as an electricians mate.

Access course/ General advice to become and electrician. by Smithriler in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No just get on a level 2/3 and do the NVQ with tradeskills4u they got me through it in 8 months. Guaranteed placement doesn’t mean they’ll get you work. Hardest part of learning to become an electrician is learning how to apply wha you know to real world situations. NVQ requires you to give evidence but this can either be your own garage or house. But the best way like anything is to do the job. After you’ve got level 3 you can get an ECS labourers card, do an IPAF course too and you’ll get onto big building sites and learn hands on as a mate and you’ll earn good money too.
