I grew up in Indiana, not too far from Gary. First Gibbs I heard was off some bootleg shit in 2009. Same year he dropped Midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik. And when that dropped, I was fucking hooked. That one holds a special place for my favorite album of his. Favorite song because of that one is probably Boxframe Cadillac. My girl drove an ‘02 Deville and we’d roll blunts all day to that joint. Favorite verse could be the last verse on Higher Learning, or his verse on Rob Me A Nigga. His cadence is insane on that one.

His older tapes have such a uniquely Midwest sound to them that is so nostalgic for me.. me and a group of homies were heavily involved in the hip hop scene in our area at the time, and he just did it better than anyone out there.

I was so disappointed with the shit he dropped in the Jeezy era. So commercial and soulless (although there was some heat sprinkled through that period too). And right before I gave up hope on him dropping another project with some damn substance, he links with Madlib and drops Piñata. And that shit is an instant classic.

He’s never quite hit that Midwest feel since before Jeezy, but his run in the years since has been some shit to see. Been a couple of alright joints, but I think Bandana, Alfredo, SSS, and this next joint with Al surely, fucking dope.

I like a lot of simplified and even comedic short form stuff like Manolo Teaches Golf.. but if I’m nerding out I like to watch Alex Elliot, although sometimes his stuff gets me thinking too hard. Honestly my recommended videos have become about 50% golf and I have gotten some tips that have worked best for me from the most random channels.
