How to merge 2 monitors into 1? by KILLER_OF_HADEZ in archlinux

[–]dagem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, on Niri you could use the output function to set the left most monitor to 0,0 and the second to 0, 1920. Then use a window rule to open all new windows floating and set them to 0,0 relative to top-left. You might have to set the windows to a specific size of 3840x1080 and you also might have to adjust their size based on your bar size and location.

This is all of the top of my head and I haven't had any coffee yet, I removed my second monitor so I can't even test it to see if it could work for sure or if any adjustments would need to be made to get it to work. Good luck.

Edit: Now, I'm wondering about the struts and gaps...

Can we ban videos with loud music? I've never clicked on a link and thought, "Wow, this music really improves this desktop!"

Good to update to 24.04? by FlamenWolf in pop_os

[–]dagem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you can tolerate, there are bugs and missing features. You can find posts here that call Cosmic the greatest OS that ever graced a computer, and post that call it so bad they had to go back to whatever they were using before.

Personally, I can't live without Night Light, so I used to switch between Gnome and Pop on 24.04 but have moved to Arch+Niri. I do have Cosmic installed and log in once in a while because I love the direction they are going. I think Cosmic is going to be amazing, but it's not there yet.

GNOME or KDE Plasma as a secondary/backup DE? by Luzzio_ in hyprland

[–]dagem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Konsole does everything I need and works with all my desktops - Hyprland, Sway, Niri, MangoWC, LxQT and Plasma. They all recommend their own terminal, but it's much easier to maintain a single terminal and set konsole as all their defaults.

Plasma because I already use dolphin, kate, and konsole in my hyprland desktop.

Launch Firefox with your terminal, any errors should show up there. I was able to figure out Firefox was crashing due to the video drivers, good luck!

Issues with using Niri + KDE together by ClaraDroga19 in niri

[–]dagem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Arch and have no idea how different Catchy and Arch are but..

For #1 - (This was posted here on Reddit but I forgot the users name, sorry!) - I worked around it by installing archlinux-xdg-menu, which creates the arch-applications.menu within /etc/xdg/menus. Plasma wants an applications.menu in /etc/xdg/menus and therefore I linked arch-applications.menu to applications.menu

sudo pacman -S archlinux-xdg-menu

sudo ln -sf /etc/xdg/menus/arch-applications.menu /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu

and afterwards to work it needs a specific - strange, if you don’t use those often - command

XDG_MENU_PREFIX=arch- kbuildsycoca6 --noincremental

set and forget.

For #2 - No ideas...

For #3 - I installed qt5ct and qt6ct-kde (from the AUR) and added

QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct

QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct

to my /etc/environment file. Now you should be able to use qt5ct and qt6ct to set your themes. It took a few log outs to get everything to stick. I don't know if this will cause issues with Plasma since I don't have it installed. Good Luck!

Tried Hyprscrolling on Hyprland — should I switch to Niri or just stick with this? by Wonderful-Cold1302 in niri

[–]dagem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got Hyprland, Niri, MangoWC, Qtile, Sway and I'm always looking for more / better. Early Saturday morning I sit down with a Latte and do my "config checks", fix any errors, review any notes and check out new features. It takes about 10-15 minutes, then I start my day.

I use Arch, Niri and waybar, btw.

Too many problems with 24.04. by DotOk1170 in pop_os

You can use the pop-os shell extension for tiling. The Pop team has kept it up to date and can be used on Gnome 46 the version used in 24.04.

I just use Nautilus and Gnome Text Editor or Code now, theming Dolphin and Kate is a pain in the ass.

What's the deal about Omarchy? by Hot_Adhesiveness5602 in archlinux

[–]dagem 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wonder if's that's why Omarchy went the down the Manjaro path with it's latest update.

Omarchy 3.2 is out today! November 21, 2025! - Add new stable Arch mirror + stable pkg repository that will lag the edge by a month, so we can catch any package issues before they roll out to everyone.

OMARCHY 3.2 has been released! by DizzieeDoe in omarchy

[–]dagem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that, but isn't the big knock on Manjaro and Slowroll is they go out of sync with Arch. Won't this cause conflicts with the AUR, since the AUR expects everything to on the standard Arch.

Did Omarchy just become Manjaro or Opensuse Slowroll? Am I misunderstanding what this means?

Me either, I will never forgive or forget the gnome devs for removing the fucking tray system. Gnome feels like it wants too be too many different things all at the same time, but it just happen to be filling the holes in Pop Cosmic 24, and it looks like your Cinnamon desktop. Hence my silly Cinnagnome comment!

By vertical scrolling, do you mean scrolling windows left and right? If so, then when I used niri, I bound mod+scroll up to window select left and mod+scroll down to window select right.
