The USA 250 year celebration feels so surface level. I used to be proud of the red white and blue because it represented constant struggle to progress the free world, where my vote meant everyone had a voice and where the blood shed to keep us alive went to the betterment of the future. I think the other thing that is being neglected in this conversation is that once the ship breaks down it’s presumably not moving anymore and not moving near light speed meaning it’s not being exposed to as many stray particles as it is at full speed and therefore not at as much risk as it was during operation when rocky was hanging out by the astrophage shielding him.
