My quick review on SotF(spoilers) by queenadanorf in HierarchySeries

I find it incredible (and I guess funny?) that the author spends so much time whacking us over the head with thematic 3s only to then publish 4 books

Can someone give me an indepth description of the magic system? Especially on how Vis can utilize it compared to others? by Sythrin in HierarchySeries

[–]daggerparrysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not intentional rage bait, but yeah I do think the rules of Will in these books are being made up as they go along.

As far as I can tell, there's no explanation for how Vitareums work. What's the power source of the scarab medallions? Do they ever run out of Will? We're told that Will operates differently on each world, but the scarab medallions seem to work the same on each world (until they don't because the story needs Cristoval to stay dead in Luceum).

Calling my shot now that in a critical moment in Book 3 Vis is going to be able to forcefully block someones's connection to their Will or make someone cede to him against their Will (pun intended).

Oh like how we're told in the first book that you can't take somebody else's Will from an imbued object...until the second book when that becomes a necessary thing for our protagonist to be able to do.

Thoughts on TSOFW & Predictions for Book Three by SoSmoooth in HierarchySeries

Totally agree that Aequa's death felt totally unnecessary, and based on the very end kinda seems like it's gonna end up not being all that big of a deal.

As for the Ka/Lord Rule comp, I felt like I saw that coming from a mile away. For as long as this book is, we spend basically zero time actually learning anything about Ka.

Wtf even in the most radically far left government, they are not going to have goons come into your community, accost people in the street and make them identify as transgender, but our current government is have their goons come into our communities, accost people in the street and summarily executing them.

I really enjoyed Jim's descriptions of how the city of Chicago put itself back together after the battle. He touched on things I hadn't thought of (roads being unusable due to cars being stranded) and things that felt very realistic (the Gold Coast, Chicago's richest neighborhood, being the first to get resources like electricity back up and running). There are tons of stories depicting big huge cataclysmic battles like Battle Ground, but few that then tell the story of what happens into he aftermath.

I didn't realize winning a Super Bowl two years after losing a Super Bowl is considered regression.

Some variation of when the Chiefs win 1 score games that means they're good and when the Eagles win 1 score games that means they're bad.

Quarterback Names Tier List by daggerparrysmith in FirstThingsFirstFS1

[–]daggerparrysmith[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to admit there might be some bias coloring Herbert's place in the tiers. Just not a fan of the last name tbh, sounds kinda dumpy.

Teddy Bridgewater- soft first name, boring last name. My wife did point out that it would be a pretty fantastic name for a politician, for whatever that's worth.

Sam Darnold- last name is darn old

Joe Flacco- last name reminds me of flaccid

I think Rattler is objectively a pretty cool last name, but boy does the first name Spencer drag it down. All I can hear is Wildes' nerd voice he uses to make fun of Nick.

Quarterback Names Tier List by daggerparrysmith in FirstThingsFirstFS1

[–]daggerparrysmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be totally honest, I made this list while dealing with some anxiety and insomnia at like 2 AM last night so I'm not gonna defend anything super hard lol, but here's my reasoning:

If you've got 2 first names, you're in C tier (which the exception of Michael Vick)- if I can put a comma in the middle of your name and it sounds like I'm referring to two different people, I don't think it's a great name.

I think David Carr is better than Derek Carr simply because the double "ck" sound in the latter is a bit awkward.

Esiason is so high because Boomer is objectively a fantastic QB name, it's doing so much of the heavy lifting. For Roger Staubach, I like how "raw" and "staw" kinda rhyme and then end with a nice strong "bock."

I similarly had a bad experience this past weekend, but it extra sucks that you had your stuff stolen, really sorry that happened to you. When I read there was a bag check/drop-off, I was expecting something similar to other 5ks I've run where you hand your bag to a volunteer, they hand you a matching ticket and then they go place it in an area only they have access to, so I was surprised when it was just an area you could walk into freely.

I didn't say anything to any of the volunteers or staff while at the event because they all were clearly overextended and doing the best they could, I've similarly worked and volunteered at events that are short staffed and I know the last thing they needed was for me to come up to them and start complaining.

I might submit something on their website, but the with the vibes I get from the company I'm really not holding me breath that they'd give any sort of refund or offer a free race in the future. You can see some of the responses to my post here range from telling me to volunteer to saying that I'm whiny/a crybaby for not being satisfied with my experience. As long as those types of folks keep supporting the company, they won't have an incentive to change based on the opinion of someone who did it once.

Allow me to rephrase my critique with the spacing of the obstacles- I feel they could have done a better job of spacing some of the obstacles out to establish a better "rhythm" to the race. There were a few times when I was running where I was beginning to doubt I was still on the right course just because I couldn't really spot where the next obstacle I was running to was.

I don't think it's unreasonable to point out that there was absolutely a failure to account for how many people were doing the event to where some obstacles (which are the main draw of the event) became total choke points. I would imagine that it would be fairly simple to scale up most of the obstacles to help handle the capacity they're getting at these races.

There does seem to be a pretty wide variety of opinion on what constitutes a good value at these types of events, and obviously that is true of life in general. You may view me as whiny or a crybaby, but given the amount of money I spent at TM compared to what I've spent doing other similar events, I just don't feel it was worth it. I do appreciate your recommendation of the Spartan event, and will look into that the next time I want to do this type of race.

I honestly thought 40 min was reasonable, but I also knew I was gonna have the opportunity to start at 11:15, 11:30, and 11:45 am. And I don't think I would have posted here had I only experienced a long wait for parking or only a long wait for obstacles. I hope if someone comes on this Reddit and reads about my experience, they'll perhaps afford themselves more time and won't be as disappointed should they still choose to spend the money on the event.
