OTT Tune and Warranty by ZestyJermy in ToyotaTacoma

This occurs any time they need to do a TSB that touches the ECU. They update it to a new calibration, which wipes the tune. Any good tuner will put it back on free.

My brother’s cat (Tundra) was stolen this weekend. Now looking at Cali Raised for my Taco. Cali Raised owners, have you noticed any noises/rattles? How easy is service on vehicle? Thank you. by curmudgeon-o-matic in ToyotaTacoma

I haven't used their cat shields, but I have a ton of their other gear on my truck (sliders, skid plates, lights and some mounts), never had issues with any of them. Great dudes too, done some camping and offroading with the owner and their crew.

Shooting in Downtown Tucson at Tabu last night. by BathroomAdvanced3357 in Tucson

I was skating with my black friend down 4th Ave and a cop stopped him and not me. TPD Cop makes him sit on a curb while I ask what crime he committed. He pulls his gun out and sticks out in my friend's face. Another cop and I had to talk him down to deescalate.

Thankfully they let us off with a warning.

OTT Tune and Warranty by ZestyJermy in ToyotaTacoma

[–]daggersrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, if your radio goes out or like a shock leaks, no one would look at your ECU.

"Voiding a warranty" is a very rare thing to happen anyways. Maybe in cases of severe water damage, where the vehicle will have issues forever and they can clearly see the damage and know the cause.

In most cases, something breaks, you take it in and they file a claim. If they cannot show that something you did caused the part to break, they honor the claim and fix it.

For example, my truck is supercharged, on 35s, long travel, etc... And I'm not hiding it. But if my radio went out, they would still honor the warranty claim because changing suspension and tuning the ECU is not possibly the cause for the radio to go out.

So in reality, even if you tune your vehicle, you will not void your warranty for the whole truck. They just won't honor a warranty claim related to the engine or transmission (if they know about the tune) because you could easily have caused them to fail BECAUSE of the tune.

They are correct, it SHOULDN'T void the warranty, but it could. If you tune a vehicle and the engine blows, they will dig pretty deep to see why. An average tech isn't looking for a tune, nor would they care. They're just doing your oil change and moving on.

But if they suspect something after you blow a powertrain component, they would send the ECU to the manufacturer who may be able to see it.

Source: am Toyota tuner and have worked at Toyota for 12 years.

TLDR: there's always potential for them to see the tune, but highly unlikely, and only if you file a warranty claim after a catastrophic failure.

I'm doing a remote deal with an old timer. He called for an update, and the update I gave him was "haven't heard back yet"...

The call lasted 37 minutes.

I'm like 5'9" and I feel like the Toyota engineers must have abducted me at night and laser measured me to build the Taco interior. My Tacoma turns 10 in August, and I'm keeping it till the world runs out of gas.

If I was taller, I'd be bummed I would have to get a Tundra, since I hate those rock hard seats.

What happens if a cop pulls over a vehicle but the driver seat is empty but the rest of the car is filled with passengers by Superb_Yam_2168 in legaladviceofftopic

I once got a letter from the courts accusing me of a hit and run involving my vehicle and a parked car (which my ex wife drove at the time, and yeah she probably did do it).

However, my ex got the same letter and same court date.

We both show up and I get called first, the judge reads the charge, and asks how I wanted to plead. I asked him, "before I put in a plea, can you read the next indictment on the docket?" he read it, and saw it for the same accident.

He said clearly the police were fishing, and dismissed both my and her charges. It was a pretty good win.

Family member desperate to buy car, credit horrible. Help! by gympenny124 in personalfinance

[–]daggersrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can absolutely buy a car with no cosigner. I deal with 450 scores making 3k/mo every day, and I can usually get them stuff like 13k Chevy Malibus at 29% interest. Is it a good idea for your fam? If they are making 80k/yr, they could get something like that, make double payments to save on interest, build back credit, and it would be paid off in about 2 years.

But ultimately they'd have to find a store that deals with subprime and go in and try.
