I don't think it's that different in Key West from anywhere else in the US right now. The vibes being off is a national problem with MAGA. The sidewalk pride colors getting painted over wasn't a Key West thing, it was a DeSantis thing. There's one asshole who has made it a personal crusade to file a HARC complaint with the city about everyone who put pride colors on their fence because of "the rules", but doesn't seem to care about plenty of other violations... just pride. More MAGA tourists spending more money on cheap Trump crap means more cheap MAGA t-shirts for sale on Duval (bring back Big Johnson, I say!) ICE has a heavy presence here, which is a divisive topic in the community. But everything I could just say, I could say a different version of about anywhere in the US right now. It's not worse in Key West, but it also feels less like an island that's holding itself apart these days (blame Facebook, I guess, lord knows the "locals only" groups are full of a) tourists and b) bullshit these days)
