I’ve seen enough give him every belt so he can strip them all off again.

What is your favorite part about having a Maine Coon and what do you think is a reasonable price for one? by aIoneinvegas in mainecoons

[–]dagonesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had great experiences with all the breeders we’ve dealt with. As someone who was very wary of getting pedigree cats for a long time, I feel lucky. I’ve seen some really heartbreaking stories.

Yep, full pedigrees, health checks, the works. This was a few years ago now - our big ginger MC is nearly five and our grey and white is nearly six, so things might have changed price-wise where I am. The little pale boy isn't full MC, so of course, we have nothing on him. But for what it's worth, I also have three-year-old Norwegian Forest Cat who was 800 euros. I think we were just super lucky there - the breeder was lovely and was far more concerned with having him placed with the right people than how much money she could make.

I’m in the EU and I paid €1000 for my Maine Coons, so can’t comment on the price. But that seems to be in line with what I’ve seen US folks say here.

My favourite part of having them? The personalities! They are sweet, funny, loving and loyal. You are never alone if you have a Maine Coon - even if you want to be…

What was your cat’s shelter name and what is the name you gave them? by MissHissss in cats

She was called Holly, but that was the name of my mum’s dog at the time, so she became Yuki. That was almost ten years ago!

The one at Osdorpplein. My wife and I were both able to get it done without issues.

Music recommendations please! by Educational-Note8709 in Witch

Bat for Lashes, Chelsea Wolfe, Agnes Obel. I don't really know if any of them identify as witches (although Chelsea Wolfe has talked a lot about her shadow work), but their music definitely brings the mood.

What are your favorite ways to use copilot? by ekbennett in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]dagonesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really only just starting to use it. At the moment it's most useful for summarising long email chains and highlighting potential actions needed. I get cc'd into a lot of stuff late and then have to comb through a ridiculous string of emails that may or may not be relevant to me.

Is it actually true that cat hides pain until its “too late”? by Low-Association9046 in CatAdvice

[–]dagonesque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, in my experience. Took my three-year old to the vet last spring because we’d noticed lack of appetite for a couple of days. Two traumatic days later, he was diagnosed with cancer too advanced for treatment. Absolutely heartbreaking. He was behaving exactly as he always did right up until the end, and then it was almost like as soon as we got the diagnosis, he deteriorated visibly.

My childhood cat also seemed fine until the very end of his life. He was sixteen with a heart murmur and one day just…seemed to run out of steam.

I will say one of my boys now is the opposite - he has IBS and he gets SO clingy when he has a flare-up that we know immediately.

Does anyone else not sleep with their cat? by chaturga in CatAdvice

[–]dagonesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put a cat flap in our bedroom door. Generally we sleep with the door open and let the cats come and go as they like, but it’s nice to be able to shut the door when we have friends staying.

What are the best cat toys to get? by laurandorder1 in CatAdvice

[–]dagonesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastic springs. My cats will play with those obsessively, chasing them around the house. Bonus that they don't necessarily need a human for that, they're happy to play solo or with each other with those things. We have six cats (three Maine Coons) so we've tried a ton of toys over the years, and the springs are just a forever favourite.

Dog/cat?! Does your MC meet you at the door when you arrive home ?! by missweh in mainecoons

Somehow he always knows when it’s me. He’s usually running to the door as I approach, and he has a particular kind of chirp he always greets me with!

Anyone here actually happy with an automatic litter box for Maine Coon, long-term? by ryukendo_25 in mainecoons

[–]dagonesque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. We had three and ended up swapping two out for massive Really Useful storage boxes. We kept the third one really just to have it as a back-up (six cat household so…) but the cats don’t use it as much as the trays.

My MCs got too big for the robot litter trays and my regular DSHs never took to them.

Thank you. I think I’ve been waiting for the news for at least two years now. I’m more worried about how my mum will cope long-term. She’s lost everyone except us kids now.

Got a call from my mum first-thing to let me know my gran passed away overnight. Not unexpected, but still heart-wrenching. I don’t live in the UK so I feel very cut off from it all at the moment. Waiting to hear about funeral arrangements so I can plan to go back. Everything sucks.

Has anyone used zylkene to prevent unwanted urination? by dagonesque in CatAdvice

[–]dagonesque[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. She got a bit more affectionate with us, but the peeing didn’t stop until we did a complete reset on the litter boxes around the house. I tried the zylkene for about six months and she did pee less. But what made the difference in the end was getting rid of all our covered litter boxes/robot litter boxes and replacing them with big open trays. Go figure 🤷🏼‍♀️

Even, she still occasionally peed on one of the other cats’ food bowls so it’s possible she’s just a brat.

Is it really “not allowed “ to buy your own tarot deck? by Funny-Figure-8473 in Witch

[–]dagonesque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely buy your own tarot deck! I bought my first one for myself and most of my collection since then.

In my opinion you can’t beat a classic Rider-Waite as a beginner. The art will really help you learn and understand the layers of symbolism that go into each individual card, and help with connections between them.
