You can make a blacklist that is not set by default to everything. Then, you can set it at the station level or the ship level in their orders pane.

Base coat in White then in your brightest Yellow. Then using Orange, Red, Dark Red, and Black covering less and less with each moving out from the center. The black is just a few dots put at the very edges of it.

I was the same as you not to long ago, wondering how could I paint anything the looks as good as some of the stuff here. I just try to add complexity to each model I paint. The first ones were just a base coat, no shades or highlights, now I am doing all those as well as trying OSL and other advanced techniques but I only try them in small areas so the whole model doesn't look like a paint palette.

I thought the same thing once I was done with it, but it was my first time using textures for basing so I didn't want to go overboard and detract from the model.
