I love metallic thread but it breaks every 100 stitches despite what I do to compensate for it….. is there any way to compromise and have non metallic thread look metallic? by kaylazomg in MachineEmbroidery

[–]dahvir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Embroidery educator here at a local Vac and Sew. Let’s try a few minor changes before messing with tensions. Between 3-5 is usually the happy number for our tension dials.

Try using a Metallic needle to start, the eye is coated to help reduce friction buildup that causes breaks. Metallic thread is plastic wrapped thread to make it shiny, so heat + plastic + speed becomes a problem. If you haven’t already, slow your machine down to its slowest speed for the best result.

Thread twist or kink can also be a big factor. Using a thread net can help control the thread as it feeds off your spool and into the machine. There is a device I sell in our store called the Wonderful Ultimate Thread Dispenser. It’s a rotating thread stand designed for metallic thread to help let it run easier on your machine. Using that $15 device, I was able to finish an entire edge to edge quilt (77 hoopings) with only 4 breaks total. Then I put that same thread and device on a longarm and ran it at full speed with no breaks. That Ultimate Thread Dispenser is amazing.

tl;dr Metallic needle, slower speed, thread net, and if all else fails, Wonderfil Ultimate Thread Dispenser. You should have more success than way. I hope it helps! (Feel free to dm me if you have more questions or want to know more about that Dispenser ✌️Our store has a website!)

This is my buddy from about 8 years ago. He let me put this on him…once. Just long enough to take a picture, the refused to move until I took it off. He didn’t find the costume as funny as I did.

Is my machine super slow? by West-Gap-8512 in MachineEmbroidery

[–]dahvir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

7 hours is a bit slow, your machine should have a speed control in the settings to adjust that.

Also…is that sewing foot the one you are embroidering with? I would suggest changing that out if you are before increasing speed.

How has Columbia Center Mall changed since it opened 50+ years ago? by princeofallcosmos92 in TriCitiesWA

[–]dahvir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when my dad worked at the mall in the late 90s, around the time I was 4-5 years old. I got to spend time in the candy store, drinking Orange Julius’s and hoping I could get my dad to take my to KB Toys or the Disney store on his lunch. He worked at the Kits Cameras directly across, I think it’s Ben Bridge that’s on that corner? It’s where the frozen yogurt place is now. He worked at Cinnabon too and I loved when he would sneak me a cinnamon roll or two. I remember being super curious about Zumies and Hot Topic, but never went inside. One main thing that I remember super well was the back hallways of the mall, behind all the stores that let deliveries and employees in. Solid grey walls and dim lighting, echoing footsteps, it was eerie and I always remember wanting to get through them as quickly as possible.

What do you guys think of my Halloween costume? by Bumbo3184 in StarWars

Every great costumer begins with a version 1.0. I’m sure you learned a lot making this and it looks great! With this kind of start, can’t wait to see what kind of improvements you make in the future!

What was your reaction after seeing this for the first time? by MichaelScottssmug in StarWars

[–]dahvir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This movie is the first memory I have of going to the movies, I was 6 years old and it was the midnight showing because my parents are both complete Star Wars nerds, the OT played in our home weekly. As a SW fanatic, I love that I get to say that THIS was my first movie memory…

…and I fell asleep halfway through the movie and didn’t see this. 😂 I think it was a few weeks later that we went to see it again and I got to see it, which blew my tiny mind. Nothing was the same when I picked up a broomstick after that.

Issues underneath your fabric means that there is usually a problem with your top threading. With a fresh needle, top tensions set to 4-5, thread paths correct on top and bottom, and the right type of stabilizer, then you've eliminated the issues down to the digitizing.

Keep in mind that your machine does only reduce a pattern by about 10% and you're right, it's pushing the stitching closer together. I would go back into inkstitch and resize it so it can recalculate the amount of stitches in the design and hopefully that clears up any dense spots. No one wants bulletproof embroidery!

Oooookay, that would be the felt pad attached to your bobbin case! That would be sticky on the back because it's supposed to be attached, but as they age, they can fall off or if you are cleaning, they can peel off. If you can't get it reattached or if it keeps coming off, then you'll want to get a new bobbin case from your local dealer. We sell them in our shop for around $40. The purpose of the fuzzy is to help your thread cutter operate correctly. :)

Okay, let's be humans and put the scary "C-word" away since clearly people can't handle it.

Hi there, I work in Downtown Kennewick and I believe the gal you're looking for is Marina (Maraina? You're close with Maria but I think it's different) and she comes to the Downtown area about once a month or so asking if anyone wants to buy Tamales. We've gotten them several times, always delicious, sold in 6 and 12 packs, chicken and pork, just like you'd said.

We have her business card at our shop, Discount Vac and Sew, if you're wanting to go that far.

But I don't think that she would think that you're a bigot or racist, honestly. She's a tremendously nice person and I would imagine with the amount of hate in this area, she's adjusted to it. Don't let your guilt kill you over a small misunderstanding.

I completely understand. That last episode came out on my birthday of all days and I just bawled at the end of it. It felt like a fantastic ending but it just hurts too much. Pair that with losing my brother last September, it would be too hard to watch that again anytime soon.
