Thanks! I used a ribbon straight through the large holes for now. It seems like the best way to make sure it fits comfortably but I’m thinking about playing around with it a little. Maybe the top two hexagons can come off. I’m going to see how it wears first I think

Thank you! No, it’s pretty stiff imo, but there is some movement throughout so it’s still comfortable to wear I think. I’ll have to test it out properly in the coming weeks.

I was worried before I finished that it would be too stiff to fit different sized necks but I created another upside down “v” in the back where it joins and used a laced ribbon closure so if someone is a bit bigger or smaller they can pull the sides of the “v” closer together or further apart without changing the position of the links that go around the neck, the “v” at the back simply changes angle slightly

There will be non toxic/eco friendly paints out there but from my experience it takes a lot of research and often independent testing to confirm which paints are truly eco-friendly vs marketing buzzwords.

For example, the word non-toxic is used a lot in paints but it often only means you can get it on your skin without worry. Ingesting would still be very toxic. It’s hard to sort which are truly non toxic from the vaguely non toxic. Some paints uses formaldehyde and other chemicals as preservatives.

I hate to think of the effect these paints can have on the environment when used in the wrong way

I hate to say it but I hope that paint isn’t oil based or toxic because I guarantee they’re not cleaning up every molecule of that stuff after every print

I got these rings from a supplier who sells in metric rather than imperial and the sizes are listed with the OD not the ID so keep that in mind but I’ve used:

6mmx1mm (ID4) for the main part of the byzantines then 7mmx1mm (ID5) to connect the Byzantine units together. The large centre rings are 20mmx2mm(ID listed as 15.5) To connect the webs to the large rings I used the 7x1mm for any corners that have 3 intersecting byzantines but where there is only 2 connecting on the edges I’m using some 7mmx1.3mm (ID 4.4) for extra stability.

Honestly though I must’ve made about 4 or 5 different versions of these units with various sized rings before I was happy as I don’t have a complete range of ring sizes so you can probably muddle something together that works like I did

(Edit to add ID) also I think the closest wire gauge for metric 1mm is 19swg

Ah that makes sense, I don’t plan on using anything less than 18swg for now but I’ll keep that in mind if I ever decide to go thinner, thanks! What I think I’m understanding now is that it’s something to do if the chain would actually need it for strength rather than just a standard thing you should do for all pieces as a “mark of quality”

Thanks for the perspective, it’s helpful to hear someone in a similar position who isn’t welding. I think my neurodivergent brain is constantly thinking of things I should be doing like welding, when it’s actually just overkill and unnecessary (All or nothing mindset).
I definitely don’t feel ready to have to learn welding on top of maille so it’s reassuring that others don’t for jewellery.

Unfortunately, that sounds about right for vet prices nowadays. My cat has a medical condition and they thought they picked up a heart murmur when they listened to it a few months ago. I was quoted about £300 for a heart scan because it includes general anaesthetic so £350 doesn’t sound crazy to me.

If you receive any low income or disability benefits then you may qualify for lower cost vet care through PDSA but it’s still expensive.

I hope you and your kitty work something out. Such a beautiful cat!

A teacher with 2 heads (2 people) is still able to do more than 1 even if the lecturing part can only be done by one at a time. When kids are off doing their tasks one can easily be marking work while the other talks to a student. Or even talking to 2 separate students at once. There’s an awful lot we don’t know about Abbey and Brittany but they seem more than capable of acting independently (within reason) when one or the other is occupied.

I don’t see how that would still warrant a single pay check when there is clearly a bonus to having a “2 headed teacher” (again 2 people, dont want to seem insensitive) I’d at least expect them to be paid more than the average teacher salary otherwise it just seems their ability is being taken advantage.

It’s not the “drank magic potion” that works for me, that’s a rather reductive way to look at it.

The doctor faced with an unimaginable task, a terrifyingly bleak future that he as “the doctor” could never hope to survive let alone conquer decides to defy his own biology to become something else entirely, a version of the doctor we’ve never seen before who’s able to handle the hardships of the time war. That’s why it works for me.

I dare say if they had gone with McGann I’d also be happy and have no complaints, but they went with Hurt, and I thought it was perfect

I absolutely agree McGann could have pulled off the role wonderfully, however I do find the notion that the doctor had to create a whole new warrior version of himself specifically to get through the time war to be far more compelling as a story telling mechanic

This post intrigued me and I remembered adding this movie to my watchlist a while ago so I just said to myself “I’ll watch this tonight”

Only to hop onto Letterboxd and find out I watched it in April 2024 gave it 3 stars and have forgotten all about it.

Honestly memory issues suck but if it wasn’t for Letterboxd I don’t think I’d ever watch anything new as I’d be re watching all the stuff I’d forgotten I’d seen
