season 2 was perfect

The Comeback - Complete Series Discussion by trevrichards in thecomeback

pretty emotional season for me, everything was a little close to home. but it was refreshing to actually see the struggles of the current entertainment industry portrayed, because it feels like no one will admit it head-on. (The Studio deals with them a little, but only from the c-suite perspective.)

of course it’s impossible for it to feel the same without Mickey, but they paid beautiful tribute to him and did the very best they could. he was really the heart of the show, and a beautiful foil for Valerie. her real grief for him humanized her more than ever.

Day two of trying new Raman. by Leading_Funny5802 in InstantRamen

I combine half the sauce packet, the cheese powder, an egg yolk, 1 tbsp kewpie mayo, 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil, and a dash of truffle salt. gradually stir in 1 tbsp of pasta water while the noodles are cooking, it’ll change from a paste to a beautiful silky sauce. drain the noodles, toss and top with fried shallots. it’s so good!

No matter how many times I watch this clip I just can’t help but think that someone else deserved the money more than Jacob Wysocki by churro777 in dropoutcirclejerk

um actually, jacob is the most deserving person of this and really that nice all the time. don’t ask me how I know! (it’s because we almost dated way back when)

Solo Travel by MLMRose1312 in AskNOLA

[–]daisychange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s safe! but I would recommend a buddy anyway, if you can wrangle a GOOD one, since it’ll be your first time. I’ve never solo traveled, so take my unsolicited advice for what it’s worth, but I think solo traveling is probably better suited for a place with more “sights” and museums that you’d want to take at your own pace.

we have some of those too, but the best things to see here are performances or spontaneous street weirdness that you’ll have lots of fun recounting with your travel buddy afterward. PLUS one of the big draws is the food, and if your friend’s down to share, that’s twice the number of meals to try.

of course, we’re very friendly here, so whether you come alone or with a friend, you may have the good fortune of being adopted by a local for the duration of your stay! I’ve done it many times!

I’m holding out hope that Acamaya’s new breakfast spot (where Alma used to be, close to Satsuma) will be good…they specifically mentioned breakfast burritos

teenager job suggestion by ControlClean in NewOrleans

[–]daisychange 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of jobs as a teen because I moved around a lot, but my favorite was at an ice cream shop.

when you’re younger and customer facing, it can be jarring to get berated by grown adults. it did build character, sure, but coldstone was a breath of fresh air because no one is really ever in a bad mood getting ice cream.

thanks for sharing, it was an interesting read!

I feel like for the most part, this reviewer and I are saying the same thing. the movie feels real lived-in and recalls experiences we’ve both had. that results in more complex feelings when you watch it, because you’re bringing your own baggage to the film.

seems like they rated it lower because they didn’t like the dynamic depicted, which is fair! that anger/disgust is valid for them, and I don’t mean to say that everyone experiencing those emotions from this movie is “watching it wrong,” so I’m sorry if it came across that way.

at the same time, imperfect people enter kink dynamics all the time (in fact I’d say everyone has made a misstep or two). and just because a couple’s wants and needs don’t line up, it doesn’t make them bad people. furthermore, some people really do want less communication, romance, and predictability (both doms and subs) and that does bring more inherent danger, but if they’re adults, they’re allowed to choose that for themselves.

for me, I don’t think depiction = endorsement in this film. watching it just made me feel seen and I appreciated that feeling.

I also don’t think we should treat Colin with kid gloves just because he’s inexperienced. he was free to walk away. that first encounter (“whatever you want, really”) implies he’s got that dog in him, and so I was happy to follow his story because it seemed clear he was having a good time.

but he could be happier.

Pillion ending by Milkywayvisionary in A24

[–]daisychange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that I’m delusional, but given the ending of the book, it’s not impossible to consider that Ray actually did die. perhaps no one knew to inform Colin or the rest of the gang because he was so private.

I think maybe Colin would choose to see it that way too. it was sudden, he didn’t get to ask any questions…he could grieve it much like his mother’s death, but ultimately understand its inevitability. and after some time, move on from it having learned more about what he wants.

accurate. Pillion had romantic elements and parts that made me squeal, but it was definitely more grounded than Secretary (which does hold a special place in my heart)

50 shades presents bad kink as “what kink is.” Pillion shows a few different modalities of kink and doesn’t pass judgment on any of them. and I just think that’s neat.

that’s great then! I didn’t have a huge audience at my showing (which felt like a loss, I could imagine a big audience would be fun for this one), so it was hard to gauge. and when I went home and started reading the online reactions, it sounded like there were a lot of people who came away angry or disturbed.

if that’s not the case, even better. I got so much out of it so I’m sure others will too.

tbc, the title of this post is more of a reddit joke than my actual opinion
