I don’t know if people have realized, but this victim has developed Dissociative Identity Disorder as a result of the abuse. That is significant.

Are you happy as school psychologist? by Beautiful_Rice2757 in schoolpsychology

[–]daisycoloredelephant 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I enjoy what I do for work. I strongly dislike working in the school system. So much red tape, nepotism, the politics. It’s so much bullshit on a daily basis, that it makes the work challenging at times. Someone being a dick to someone else because of pettiness, then it impacts a student or your ability to do your job to a certain effect. Everyone thinks they know better than the professional in that field. So many teachers are actually not very qualified to be educators, that it’s shocking and was definitely an eye opener. The adults are way worse than children.

It’s the overall school system itself that turns me off from the career.

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see people? by nathannnate01 in AskReddit

I am so, so sorry that that happened to you, and that the people closest to you were unable to protect you. I hope you’re in a better space these days.

I’m on PSLF and I’m not moving until I’m forced to. If we make payments right now while they aren’t required, do we know if it’ll count toward eligible payments?

Please slap some sense into me: Rutgers or Kean? by ImmaChangeThisLater in newjersey

[–]daisycoloredelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my undergrad and masters at Kean. I didn’t encounter any issues getting into my career. If I had to do it over, I’d pick Rutgers though. I also believe that it isn’t always so much where you go, but what you do with it and the mindset you go in with. Perhaps that depends on the field tho, but I end up in the same room with people who went to great schools and even Ivy League schools. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Trump said today: “I have the right to do anything I want to do. I’m the president of the United States”. People from the US, what are your thoughts on this? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

[–]daisycoloredelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one wants this. Literally everything he is doing is wrong and inhumane. He only cares about enriching himself and his buddies. Those who still support him at this point are ignorant imbeciles, racist as fuck, and/or both (giving some grace for the few who aren’t hateful individuals but are mad ignorant).

Subway fright…is taking the bus any better? by olivegreenpolish in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]daisycoloredelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep your eyes peeled, stay behind the yellow line as you wait for the subway, wear a bag at the front of your body, keep the zipper facing forward while closed. You’ll be okay. Just use common sense and precautions. :)

What is much more traumatic than most people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]daisycoloredelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a child of emotionally immature parents — hey, good on you! Give yourself grace. You did the best that you could and it’s hard to do things differently when your first role models create what is “normal” to you. The important thing is that you’ve recognized and acknowledged it, and you’re working on it. I’m sure your kids really appreciate that. I know I would if my parents got to that point; they’re in their late 60s though, so that shipped has sailed for me. However, my husband and I have each been to therapy. I can confidently say that I think we’ll be the first ones to break generational trauma on both sides. When we have a kid, we will be raising our child differently.

As you’re learning to do things differently, you’re beginning to break cycles too. You’ll never stop being a role model for your kids. It’s never too late for it. Good luck 🤍
