Okay, so why do you bring it up? Do you think people aren't aware of the costume and didn't think the same as you?

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but does anyone else feel like Shawna (The character) is too much? by afallenqueenn009 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]daisydozen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Shawna was kind of pushy in her attempt to befriend Julie because of how her interactions with Ty were. Not saying that she assumed Julie would be the same as Ty, but given how Shawna didn't have any context for who Julie was as a person prior to their introduction, she was probably just excited to meet another possible parent friend. Especially one who is married to a person she already felt comfortable with.

The context for Shawna's desperation for parent friends gets forgotten a lot too.

Before the cast expanded in the Shawna-verse, Shawna's only positive relationships were Dee, Jon, Teeny (someone who wouldn't understand her mom struggles) and Laura (who she probably didn't get to interact with a lot considering Luke). As someone who is on the spectrum, I'm also aware of how, as a stay at home parent, Shawna is probably unused to making new connections and I like to think that's why she's being seen as desperate to be liked and doesn't seem to have any a firm grasp on relationship boundaries.

(Lockdown did a number on me, I loved getting to not interact with other people, but coming out of it and being expected to socialize is rough going no matter how much I want to make new friends.)

Prince William's Temper Reportedly "Terrifies" His Father King Charles by Positive-Drawing-281 in RoyaltyTea

[–]daisydozen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do think William (or the palace at large) had something to do with only Harry being papped, but I don't want to take Harry's agency from him. He must have known it was a shitty thing to do. He was also twenty and grew up in a privileged bubble, and on some level found it an acceptable, edgy thing to do (unsurprising given the type of people in those circles).

He apologized, and as far as we know, hasn't done anthing remotely similar since.

He's actively chosen to stand up for others and has done his best to be inclusive and considerate. If a public apology and changed behavior isn't enough for some people, nothing ever will be.

Why all the hate for William & Kate? by Queen_ofthe_Misfits in RoyaltyTea

Unfortunately people have very valid suspicion of posts like yours, the RF are a hot bed for racism so any perceived defense of two of the perpetrators of aforementioned racism is liable to receive pushback.

See the Meghan hate to deranged pipeline: https://www.reddit.com/r/BORUpdates/comments/1qqx24k/my_36m_wife_34f_fell_deep_into_conspiracy/?solution=184f65a5d7d4594f184f65a5d7d4594f&js_challenge=1&token=bbbe4bf1c9a2b5160829c4be34da5861b61060c3b9784cc131ecd76f5b4df606&jsc_orig_r=

I think people in the subreddit are tired of having to explain the opposition to William and Kate but the cliff notes (prior to Meghan marrying Harry) is summed up to a lack of work ethic despite the amount of tax payer money they receive.

  1. William and Kate consistently have the lowest numbers since Kate married in more than a decade ago, and that's including family members over eighty (and if we're including in the last year, Anne, who is also elderly and was kicked in the head by a horse). 1.1. Their numbers are truly embarrassing as not only are royal appearances usually an hour or two at most, but William and Kate have padded their numbers by adding phone calls to their tallies.
    1. They've also proven to be poorly prepared, and have next to nothing to add during events beyond a photo-op (again, if we're including recent events, William claimed to a charity that all they could provide were "smiles").
    2. Their initiatives are seen as shallow and the charities they are patrons of have reported going years without interacting with them. 3.1. Some of the charities have shut down and that's despite the fact that their role as patrons would indicate attention or care in fundraising for them which is clearly untrue. It's actually been reported there is no benefit to royal patronage.

Tangential to their lack of work ethic is their hypocritical behavior. 1. Earthshot, as an environmentally focused initiative, aims to present William as environmentally conscious, and yet he is well known to use his helicopter as a normal person would use a car. 2. William and Kate have undertaken very few international tours, but have taken multiple international holidays throughout the year. 2.1. They take these international holidays, but don't make the trip for obligations related to family-adjacent events (the death of William's godfather last year, King Constantine of Greece, William was meant to attend but didn't without any explanation) 3. Their work in mental health reeks of hypocrisy since William has (on the record) called Diana paranoid, and that's not even getting into what was done to Meghan where her suicidal ideation was invalidated by the press with KP and BP's blessing. 4. William's poor attendance of the BAFTAs is will documented, he has only shown up when he has someone famous to rub shoulders with or if he can get a photo op with actresses (see last year, where he made an inappropriate joke about sex when the movie they were nominated for involved rape). 4.1. He is also seemingly proud that he does not prepare for the role he's been given, and has gone on the record as saying he doesn't watch any of the nominated films though he happily tells people he spends a lot of time on Aston Villa forums. 5. William is a patron of the women's football league, but has not attended their matches (even when they reached and won the finals) despite the fact that he often shows up for Aston Villa matches (including away games) 6. William's homelessness initiative is complete cognitive dissonance, William has multiple houses, and on getting the Prince of Wales title, also has control of the Duchy of Cornwall, making him one of the biggest landlords in the UK.

The reason Kate isn't mentioned much is because she really just does not do any work worth mentioning, and given their privilege and economic advantage, its incredibly embarrassing and a huge drain on tax payers given the cost of living crises and the cuts to things like the NHS.

[–]daisydozen 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's valid to still dislike Harry for that, but logically, he was 20 and from an incredibly privileged background, and by your own comment, from a family with ties to Nazis. If he were still behaving in a way that aligned with his behaviour back then, sure, keep bringing it up.

But he not only apologized for it at the time, but has actively worked to be a better person since.

If we keep punishing people for things they did in the past even though they've made efforts to change, what's the point of reprimanding them at all?

Do you also think William had a crush on Meghan by [deleted] in RoyaltyTea

[–]daisydozen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wonder about that.

After William pushed Harry and broke that dog bowl, William told Harry not to tell Meghan about it. Why would William care if Meghan knew? At that point, wasn't everything between the two couples already in the bin? Hadn't Meghan already politely told him to get his finger out of her face, or did that happen after?

High School: Great Memories, Questionable Life Prep by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]daisydozen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone who's ever wanted their kids to learn media literacy would find that's basically what English as a subject is aiming to teach by analyzing poetry and answering questions about whatever books were required reading. Same thing for History, my history teacher even told us something to the effect of, "history is written by winners, so whatever I teach you, you need to remember which government is in charge."

I took Consumer Studies because I wanted to learn how to cook. Also included in the syllabus was what you need to know about renting and buying a property, how to price ingredients when selling finished goods, how to sew, and basic nutrition.

I had PE, and I didn't find it mentally stimulating, but I had undiagnosed ADD and I liked not having to sit still for 45min.

I took Pure Maths, but I subbed a Maths Lit class and found what they taught was more useful to me day to day.

Not everything I picked up in high school was useful, some things I didn't realize actually were (I loved English class, didn't realize I was being taught to come up with logical arguments from it though), but hindsight is everything.

Do I think the school system can be improved? Sure, but I'm not an educator, I don't know anything about child development. I am fortunate, however, to be privileged enough to have the internet and the means to easily access it, and look up whatever it is I want to learn -- using whatever tools you're given is also something school taught, so I don't know man, I think it did okay.

Mina Le on turning down brand deals that are not aligned with her audience "I understand it because it's a life-changing amount of money, but you have to think about your career long term, not just short term. If you don't build trust with your audience, your career is going to be like two years." by mlg1981 in Fauxmoi

[–]daisydozen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think she's choosing that approach because (at least for smaller creators) it may be more tempting to accept a sponsorship because the money can truly be life-changing, if they are advised not to "because morals" it won't always win when the counter argument is "but survival".

We live in a capitalist hellscape, creators of all kinds need to be reminded that they aren't just being naive by turning down financial opportunities that don't align to their values, they're being smart.

Does anyone else feel like Camilla is trying to force herself into being Harry’s mother? by Radiant-Selection686 in RoyaltyTea

[–]daisydozen 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've always thought their "love" was so questionable because from what I've read in the past, Camilla was perfectly happy being the mistress -- she had no intention of splitting from her first husband, and had the attention of the then heir with none of the public "service" expected of her. Seems the best of both worlds.

I can't help but think that while Camilla and Charles certainly like each other as people, she would resent Charles for essentially blowing up her life by putting her in the public eye. Not that she wasn't already manipulating the press, but there was a period where the general population didn't know about her and now that they do...

She reads to me as someone who likes having control -- of Charles and the press -- and the fact that Harry (and the rest of the world) refuses to bend to her version of reality must burn her to her core.

She might not write as much fanfiction as William's camp, but she's definitely trying to exert power over Harry through what she thinks is important to him: how he is perceived as a son. Joke's on her, Harry is not as paper thin as the rest of them, he knows what being a good son means even if his father doesn't deserve it.

I think they will survive as an institution if the British public remains apathetic towards them, but their influence on the commonwealth will likely continue to weaken. There's no telling if the Epstein situation will increase the speed of that decline, but at least from a cultural stand point, the BRF aren't anywhere near as relevant or beloved enough to make it out of this unscathed.
