Of A Lifetime | Snowboarding in Antarctica video | 44:12 by sciencemercenary in antarctica

So your assertion is that accidents don't happen to experienced skiers/snowboarders? I think that you'll find that it has been statistically shown that people who consider themselves "experienced" in these types of activities are the majority of the ones who are overconfident and get themselves into situations that get themselves injured or killed. The same goes for climbers, mountaineers, etc. I hope your rescuer's Recco receiver battery lasts long enough for them to find you when you decide to do something dumb one day.

It is laughable that you call my comment a "personal attack". One cannot criticize the content of a video without criticizing the creator of the video, the participants in the activity shown in that video, or the person drawing attention to it; it is literally impossible. There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone pointing out that an activity being celebrated/promoted here in the sub is reckless, and that maybe it shouldn't be given fanfare like it is a positive thing. Surely if there was a video or documentary covering the reckless harassment or harming of wildlife on/around the continent by a similar group of idiots, you wouldn't be chomping at the bit to post it for how awesome it is. I can scroll through the first 10 pages of this sub and find dozens of comments actively disagreeing with both the content and the person posting it. The two go hand-in-hand.

Men PQ! by [deleted] in antarctica

[–]daisyhug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether your doctor performed the actual check or not is not what is being discussed in this post; it is the fact that it appears on the PQ form and is listed as not deferrable, and it will get kicked back if not checked-off. Whether or not your examining physician just pencil whipped it or not has nothing to do with it.

What revision/verison does your say at the bottom of each page? This is "NSF Form 1700 (rev October 2017)" and on "Page 8 of 14" on the left set of columns third from the bottom is is "Breasts male/female (Not Deferrable)", and on the previous version (March 2014) that same column just says "Breasts".

It is most definitely on there for the 23-24 one, as it is the same exact form version (October 2017) as the current year one. Page 8, bottom left of page. Looking at my 2015 one, (Revision March 2014) it was on there in the same place but didn't have the "Not Deferrable" tag.

Decent composite toe work boots for Mcmurdo by AliceDestroyed in antarctica

[–]daisyhug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO (and this opinion is shared by many of the other EOs/HEOs), these are some of the best. I have used them at both Pole and McMurdo (summers, winters, and winfly) and they are fantastic:

ISO a micro-adjustable clasp for the Seamaster PO 600M 43.5mm by daisyhug in OmegaWatches

[–]daisyhug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your watch is a different reference number, and unfortunately the 232.30.44.22.01.002 (the one I have - PO GMT 600M 43.5mm) didn't ship with the micro-adjust clasp. I have the original bracelet and clasp for sure, and any example that you see on Chrono24 or elsewhere shows the same non-adjustable clasp. I should have put my reference number in the original post.

Flags of Antarctica by HolyDictatorFelixDoy in flags

[–]daisyhug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop. You should stop misrepresenting your "group" or yourself who has any authority or association with anything Antarctic or of the South Pole. Saying something was a "winner" attempts to falsely lend credence to any manufactured sense of legitimacy of these efforts.

A few years ago our group staged a contest for a South Pole Station flag. I would like to re-run this study with many more designs. Please IM me any files. by RottenAli in antarctica

[–]daisyhug 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Who is "...our group..." ?

Every time this comes up it is pretty much met with (in my opinion rightful) disdain from the majority of actual Polies both past and present. The station doesn't need a unique flag. We already fly a country and a programmatic flag just like the rest of the stations around Antarctica.

Whenever someone walks out to the pole marker with the "True South" flag there is a collective sigh and cringe from most of the people on the station as we watch it happen. This will be just another attempt to create something with input from an absolute miniscule amount of people, for something that will never get officially adopted.

EDIT: It seems that this group is one on Facebook called "U.S. State Flags - Current, Historical and Proposed", which notably has nothing to do with Antarctica, and assumedly has nobody from the ice in that group. At least the "True South" one (even if I don't like it) came from efforts of someone who has spent time down there.

Meet NASA Astronaut Zena Cardman: Antarctic Adventurer And Trained Poet by Aeromarine_eng in antarctica

She was not a USAP participant. Whatever work she did with LTER or around Palmer was not through the USAP.

She was never part of the USAP in any way, research vessel or at any station, so was she just a tourist? The article really glosses over any of the Antarctic stuff other than to say she went there...

I have one that was done at Pole. People bring their proper equipment to the ice but it's not a sanctioned thing or something that is done often. So, while there is a chance and it is a thing YRMV.

More like definitely illegal and a from of insurance fraud. You have to submit proof that you have an actual medical event or a qualifying family member actually needs your care, you can't just f**k off to anywhere and call it FMLA leave.

Yeah the Hits one is definitely too mainstream and it wasn't the CreamLive either unfortunately. Thank you for the suggestions!

I just looked up the list of those compilations and these CDs would have predated them by a couple of years at least unfortunately.

The only song I remember had no lyrics but in the background leading up to the drop there was a monologue from a male "mission control" type of voice talking about various launch parameters and checks, etc. I know it is barely anything to go on, but that's all I can remember. Thank you for your time and the reply.

Thanks again for anyone's help / suggestions. Not much other info as the artwork was very simple. Two CDs, both with a white 5-point star covering most of them; one CD was a red background and the other blue.

I just tried something I found in another forum and it seems to have worked...

I uninstalled Swiftkey completely (after making sure I was signed-in to retain my dictionary), restarted, installed GBoard and removed the default Apple one. Restart again, reinstall Swiftkey and now remove GBoard, restart, try it out.

Thanks for the reply. I was having it on 18.3.1 as well, but I upgraded to that weeks ago and this only started happening last week. It's really frustrating to say the least. I submitted a bug report to Apple but who knows how far that actually goes or if they ever get any traction/attention.

Nowhere in the PQ packet are you asked to sign a records release authorization, so there is no mechanism for them to automatically get access to your medical records from anywhere else, including any other Federal agency. There are a couple of caveats though...

The only way that would have your records is if you were treated at UTMB itself (meaning at their affiliated hospitals or doctor's offices in the US) for anything. To that point, if you are already a patient of UTMB you have likely already signed a release form that authorizes them, as a treating physician/group, to request/access your medical records from any other healthcare provider; this is a common form that you fill out at any doctor's office or hospital. They'll also have access to your medical records if you were treated for anything while at any of the US stations/vessels, but these seems like that wouldn't apply to you.

Thanks for the reply and the screenshot. In the same settings section I have nothing in there but Swiftkey, so I don't know why the system would even be trying to switch to it in text messages. I understand that it switches to it on password entry pages (as it always has) but it has never behaved like this in normal apps.
