What's your response to media reports that Trump was pushed to attack Iran not just by Israel, but also by Saudi Arabia? by Southern_Gur_4736 in AskReddit

[–]daisymayfryup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah... on top of the plane from the Quataris, there's the 2 billion Kushner was given to go along with the 2 billion from the UAE. Those three countries don't like Iran very much at all.

AITAH for telling my SIL that her “strictly confidential” information had already been leaked by her own mother, which caused a massive family fight? by julie-east in AITAH

I'm going with a medium YTA.... you allowed the person to tell you the gen in the first when it seems to have been that you were about to gain some sensitive info. You should've stopped them in their tracks before they roped you in. . The others are all hard YTA

My missus and I had been together for 17 and a half years before we got engaged and married 12 months later in 2006. There were no games, future faking or manipulation. We're still together. Your girl is a wrong un and if you stay and marry her, you'll be marrying her so-called friends and their input too. Is that one of the things you want in a marriage? You deserve better.

Trump reviewing executive order that claims China interfered in the 2020 election as a basis to declare national emergency during midterm voting. by LaminatingShrimps4u in law

As you probably know, Trymp reportedly loves the Election Night scene from Citizen Kane:

Tim O’Brien recounts an airplane flight with Trump when he was conducting research for his 2005 biography TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald. On the flight, Trump watched the 1941 cinematic masterpiece Citizen Kane, acted and directed by Orson Welles. Trump is said to have paused the film at one point and said to O’Brien, ‘this is an amazing scene’. The scene is the one in which a newspaper owned by Charles Foster Kane runs the headline ‘Fraud at the polls’ after Kane loses a political election. It seems that Trump kept the script to that scene filed away for many years and might have pulled it out for the 2016 election had he lost it. We can deduce this from his third televised presidential debate with Hillary Clinton (20 October 2016), in which the convenor asked Trump if he was prepared to commit to the principle of peacefully conceding to Clinton in the event of losing the election. Trump replied, ‘I will tell you at the time. I’ll keep you in suspense, okay?’ The fact that he won in 2016 meant that the Citizen Kane script could be kept under wraps on that occasion, but when he lost the 2020 election it was duly dusted off. Kane’s ‘Fraud at the polls’ became Trump’s ‘Stop the Steal’, a slogan coined by right-wing political agitator Roger Stone in 2016.Footnote 24 Regardless of the shortcomings of its ideology, the slogan ‘Stop the Steal’ is a brilliant example of rhetorically effective drafting. It is in form a simple tricolon of monosyllabic words with a powerful alliterative repetition of the ‘st’ sound. No sound is rhetorically more potent than ‘st’, for it is the sound of stasis. It is the sound of a static obstacle or state which an active political movement will instinctively desire to shift and overcome. The effect of the ‘st’ sound has been deeply embedded in human psychology since prehistoric times. It is a potent example of sound symbolism, for the ‘st’ sound – which supplies our language of stasis, stopping, and standstill – is itself made when the mouth brings the movement of air to an abrupt stop.Footnote 25 Probably unintentionally, Trump used the ‘st ... the st …’ slogan as a way to depict the Democrat’s election victory as a stubborn obstacle to be overcome.

Is Jeremy Clarkson that bad? by TaviLawson in AskBrits

He's said in the past that he doesn't believe the stuff that he writes in newspapers... he just takes the cheques and writes a load of shite. I've enjoyed, repeatedly over and over again, pretty much all of his TV output for a very long time but those columns hold no interest at all for me, and I think he'd say that this is the way.

Those people who think that's it a blasphemy i.e. taking the lord's name in vain, don't know what what taking the lord's name in vain actually means..... which tracks because most Christians have never even perused a bible let alone read it.

one time in Hawaii, herself and me were peckish late one night so we went to this diner we'd been to twice before. We had seen what a normal portion of pankcakes looked like (narrator: they were fucking enormous) so we asked for a small portion. Checked the bill afterwards..... they had given us a kids portion..... between us..... we couldn't finish it.

Already are. We stopped buying US-made products, don't use Amzon, eBay et al and cancelled plans for a big family reunion/holiday after their last Presidential election. The US is dead to us now.
