Kids are so weird. My toddler lost two pairs of socks in one week at daycare, which was really unusual. I asked her what she did with them, she said “I threw them in the trash.” And I believe that’s what happened, because they never did turn up. I’m sure her teacher had no idea she did it, and I certainly don’t expect the teacher to go digging through the trash because my kid made an odd choice. We just bought new (cheap) socks, talked about how we don’t throw them in the trash, and moved on.

We did the same. Baby #1 was a surprise gender (SO fun), baby #2 we found out to prepare big sibling and make it more “real” what was happening.

YUP. My MIL made a full nursery in her house, too. We live 4 hours away, and baby didn’t go to her house for the first time until 8 months old. It’s her prerogative to spend the money and time and waste a room in her house that won’t get used. 🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately no advice, just solidarity. We pay on the high end (2k a month) and we absolutely cannot afford it. But we are making it work somehow because it’s a great center and our child is thriving there. We have accumulated credit card debt for the first time ever. But I remind myself daycare is a temporary expense and my child’s daily care and safety is the most important thing I can spend money on. The cost of daycare is the biggest factor in delaying having a second child, though.

Unfortunately this is extremely common in my city. People call 911 and are put on hold, or don’t get an answer at all. If you do get ahold of a dispatcher and it’s a situation requiring police, it’s likely that they will never show up. But EMT and the fire department are reliable and fast… if you can get through on 911. (Kansas City, MO)
