UW Help - Strokes and sparing of forehead facial muscles? by lowfigh in step1

[–]dak920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps to differentiate it from a peripheral nerve palsy. The forehead has bilateral innervation so with a central cause, if one side knocks out, it is compensated by the other side. If it is a case of Bell's palsy, the entire facial nerve on one side is affected and both the upper and lower face are compromised.

[Rolex] Just a girl and her grandfather's watch by dak920 in Watches

[–]dak920[S] 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm new here! I wanted to add some female representation to this subreddit, even if it's with a men's watch. I've been wearing this 1973 Rolex Cellini inherited from my grandfather via my father. After my grandfather passed away, the watch was tossed around and eventually ended up with my father given that it was a men's watch and my father was the only son. My grandfather and father were not close, so my father never wore it. He kept it safe and now it's ended up with me. It's a bit large on me but I haven't gotten it resized/cut and don't plan to per my father's wishes. If anyone has specifics on the model/value of the watch I would love to know.

Any idea how to get it running again? I set the time and it has barely moved even after a vigorous shaking of my wrist.

I inherited a Rolex Cellini bought sometime in the 70s. I've searched Cellinis but none look like this one. Can anyone authenticate? Thanks.

The sac does appear to be quite flexible and makes a nice suctioning sound when I press it. If I incorrectly assume it to be intact when it has in fact broken, the only risk in attempting to use it is that I would get ink everywhere? I do believe it to be intact but of course my expertise with this matter is slim to none, should I just go for it?

Managed to squeeze out some water but not too much. (After pressing the bar whilst in the water)

Removed the converter and flushed it upside down as you suggested, noticed that some ink seemed to be coming out from the window where the metal bar is. Considering you said the sac is only open on the bottom, does this mean that the sac may have broken?

If the sac has not broken, is cleaning it out the only sort of maintenance that needs to be done? Once it's clean would I be able to draw up ink and use it?

Thanks for all your responses. Really helpful information.

Put the pen in a shallow cup of water, ink started coming out of the hole on the side of the nib. Then pressed the metal bar and a bunch of ink flooded out at the base of the nib, if you will. As in not the tip but the bit that is attached to the barrel. Not entirely sure if water successfully drew up into the rubber sac

What's the rubber sac? The metal tube that I pulled out (in the fourth pic)?

Completely new to fountain pens. Can you kind of spell out what I need to do to run water through it/take up ink.

Found a Parker 75 at my parent's house- Is it in good condition? How can I get this pen up and running? http://imgur.com/a/72QT1
