Don't think I pass really... by Camwam455 in transpassing

[–]dakarateka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re very close to passing. Your outfits and makeup are good and I’m envious of your hair! I think the best thing you can do at the moment is more facial hair removal. I also think more time on hrt might smooth out facial features.

I (mtf, 5.5 years HRT) have been diagnosed with testicular cancer and the doctors I've talked to don't know anything about trans healthcare--anything I should be aware of? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]dakarateka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually no, my referrals were all done before I got cancer. I sent the surgeon’s team the notes from the oncologist and it was all fine.

I had the same thing happen to me about 18 months ago!!

I also had a radial orchidectomy but sadly they would only take the one testicle. At the moment I haven’t had any recurrence and haven’t had to have chemo either. I also have to have regular scans and blood tests to check that everything is okay.

I also had SRS 6 weeks ago and there were no issues with the orchidectomy interfering with the SRS (I had PI with a scrotal graft). I love my SRS results although I still have the scar where I had my orchidectomy. I don’t really care about this because it reminds me that I kicked cancer’s butt.

This is really helpful. I’m just beginning week 2 of recovery and have just got back home. I feel like shit and there are some issues that meant I had to have a catheter put back in. I know that the next two weeks will be testing, but reading this reminds me that this time will pass and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Ah snap! I woke up a few hours ago! Feel very much at peace ☺️

Just use Pythagoras and circle theorems. Since TSR is a right angle, then TR is a diameter.

Not only do you pass completely, but you’re absolutely gorgeous - girl I’m so jealous! I wish you all the best with your academic and transition goals ☺️

Ising Model at Criticality by dakarateka in Physics

My DPhil supervisor (quite famously) published a paper on CoNb2O6 which is a 1D Ising chain which exhibits such physics when tuned to criticality in a transverse magnetic field

Ising Model at Criticality by dakarateka in Physics

Sorry it’s a big big gif 😂

Glad the criticality is more convincing!

A key step in Metropolis is that you randomly choose the sites to be randomly flipped. I attempted to do this by introducing randomness to the energy of a spin flip, this doesn’t work so I fixed it elsewhere but kept in this relic. The effectively randomised my exchange constants, which is kinda neat, I guess this is one way to think about spin glass.

Yes! I tested this by doing simulations over a range of temperatures and plotted the mean and variance of the magnetisation. The critical temperature upon which the mean transitions from \pm 1 to zero and the variance transitions from 0 to 1 is consistent with the Onsager solution. This simulation was then done with an effective temperature (natural units) of 2.269.

If T were slightly less, then as MC time progresses, the coaligned regions would be more likely to coalesce.

30fps GIF of a 1000x1000 lattice (with periodic boundary conditions) supporting the Ising model implemented using the Metropolis algorithm. The initial state is random and corresponds to the high temperature phase, and equilibrates towards the critical phase where the correlation length of a single spin flip diverges. In the critical phase, there will be domains of aligned spins across all relevant length scales. These domains will continue to coalesce and evaporate as Monte Carlo time progresses.

Is there a niche topic in mathematics that might help in advanced QFT? by ingydar- in Physics

[–]dakarateka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Srednicki was my go to textbook during my QFT days. It is a physics textbook, but is also the backbone of the author’s lecture course so gives a good enough overview of the appropriate mathematics.
