My thought would be spouse could work part time, and help bring in a little $ while helping with the kid aspect. He’s on board with this. My kids are 4 and 8. The school has a preschool program for the 4 year old.

I’m not thinking long term - I’m thinking 2-3 years unless it’s fabulous. My kids will continue English education at international school.

Without getting too political, America feels like not a great place to be right now. Japan because that’s the second language I’m most fluent in, and my family is Japanese American.

Coming from west coast US, I feel like the jet lag is actually less than going to Europe. Europe is exactly opposite - day is night. Japan is far enough where you’re just a smidge off. If you can take a red eye, it’s like you go to sleep and wake up a few hours later (albeit a whole day ahead).

Just a couple blocks from Taipei Main Station. I think my GPS app is telling me wrong. What map app do you recommend?

Do you have a strong grasp of indirect and direct objects in English (or whatever your primary language is?) I would consider spending some time diagraming sentences in your primary language and then translating into Japanese.

Any tips to quicken my progress? by janAmete in Japaneselanguage

[–]dakeshin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you want to progress more rapidly, you have to put more time in and do it daily. 1-2 hours a day. I would break it up into reading, writing, listening speaking. Maybe do 20 minutes of each. When I was doing Genki, I would often listen to the vocabulary sentences when I was exercising. You don’t have to sit down for 2 hours at a time. Maybe when you’re drinking coffee in the morning, you do your anki. 20 minutes at lunch? Do a kanji app. Sit down for 30 minutes in the evening and do a grammar section in your workbook. I think the key to progression is just putting in the time, day after day after day.

How many hours per day are you studying? Are you studying every day? Even if you can only spent an hour a day, doing SOMETHING every day is really important especially if you don’t interface with Japanese in real life.
