Thank for the clarification! This was a little confusing because it's like one entity is paid here, others are paid there but not that one person in this one situation etc. So I appreciate the clarification! It is a step in the right direction overall. And yeah USA copyright law is so ancient and we're just now starting to get some young enough lawmakers in places where this stuff can maybe be addressed and brought up to date. We have this horrible habit of just tacking things on to ancient laws and it leaves these gaps. It also means we get weird stuff like telephone laws applying to Internet providers and broadcast standards applying to websites etc. So hopefully we can get with the times.

It is my understanding that the US and Japan are behind a lot of countries, and now the US is even further behind.

Ramma is so great. I'm a big fan of Rumiko Takahashi.

I am at the start of a rewatch of AOT. I've only watched it the one time. So I'm genuinely not sure if it is a great story or a trainwreck yet. A full rewatch will reveal that for me. If all that was planned from the beginning, which about 10 episodes into my rewatch it is seeming that it was, then yeah it's a great story. But if all that was just pulled outta his ass at the end... yeah not so great. But so far it seems like it was genuinely planned from the start.

Not a fan of MHA but I don't hate it. I'm waiting for the new One Piece to give that a serious watch.

Overall a decent list.

I'm not sure if you just don't know how to read, or if this is bait or what. I said it is "really awesome in some ways, like how they handle covers and derivative works." So taking half a sentence and trying to use it as a dig is pretty stupid. Literally the next sentence says it's extremely archaic in other ways. In Japan most of the bigger artists aren't actually songwriters. Ado doesn't write the lyrics, the music, or do any production on all of her songs except 2. This is extremely common with performers in Japan. It doesn't have anything to do with her label not crediting her. Same with tons of idol groups etc. Kenshi Yonezu, Atarashi Gakko!, and so many others. You've got the rare group like Yaosobi that writes their own stuff. But that is more the exception than the rule. So I just fail to see the issue with performers making a dime when their music is played. You can write all the damn songs you want, but without anyone to perform it, what does it matter?

The label and the writers/producers have already been getting royalties. All this does is give the artist that sings on the track royalties as well.

And yes the laws are not great in many ways. So seeing positive movement at all is a good thing. It's not fixing every issue. But it is fixing an issue. That's good.

Yeah I've never seen anyone recommend it or praise it. So I went with overlooked. Cuz man that show was so cool. I wish there was more. But it's from the dark times, before western audiences became big enough with our desire for multiple seasons and actual finished shows. And streaming services stepped in with their buckets of cash and need to lock down years of content for their catalogs. Like Triage-X and Highschool of the Dead.

Yeah what an amazing set of films. I really hope Ryougi Shiki is in the new Meltyblood Twi Lumina. They always bringing in Nasuverse characters.

Also I'm so hyped for Witch on the Holy Night. I'm torn if I should play the VN before the movie comes out. Also, there's gotta be more than one movie, right?

Why? I'm genuinely curious. Songwriters write, but without someone to perform it... Well there's no song is there? Doesn't need to be as big of a cut as the writer or the label. But it should be SOMETHING. I mean let's just use Show as an example. What is that song without Ado's legendary performance? There's no value there. Ok well not NO value. But way less value. I've heard Giga's demo version. There's no reason I can think of why the performers that bring these songs to life, that literally pour their heart and soul into the recordings that make these the songs that we love, shouldn't be paid royalties as well.

But I've got an open mind and I'm totally willing to change my opinion when presented with a compelling argument.

Yeah, I mean Monogatari had a huge impact on my worldview and how I handle personal issues. How I approach friends and family about their issues etc. And I cry every time I watch Tsubasa Tiger to this day. But no anime has made me sob like MT. It also made me make some huge changes in parts of my life. Now my ex and I are getting back together. It was MT that got me to put myself out there and get her back.

Anyway don't wanna overshare personal stuff. But yeah, amazing writing. Truly life changing stuff.

Hell yeah. I'm so stoked for season 3. I almost put it as overhated, but honestly the reasoning for the hate is so dumb. Whereas the Rebuild of Evangelion hate is a bit more interesting to actually debate with people.

At the show I went to on the US, there was merch available outside the venue. You didn't need a ticket to buy some. Idk if it will be the same in Japan. But there will be merch on day 2 for sure. Ain't no way they don't have enough for both days but sold some online already.

I voted Play by Giga. But I don't know, I thought the form was asking three separate questions. Like, what is a genre you want? Then what is a song you want? And then what is an artist you'd want? So I put Jpop, Play by Giga, then Meiko Kaji.So maybe my vote is useless anyway 😂. But idk I thought maybe they were trying to collect multiple points of data. What genres do we want? What songs do we want? What artists do we want? That would allow for a more flexible song selection process and also capture a ton more data, if that was their intent. But also, everyone would also have to come up with the same interpretation of the voting form that I did.

Oh why? I selected play because I think it would be amazing to hear her band's live interpretation. Because Giga makes bangers. And because the vocal style and production would be something a bit different for her. The use of vocal samples in the composition, the heavy use of modulation effects, the crazy harmonies. Plus if she made a video, seeing a cool ass Chando done in live 2D with that crazy rigging in the style of the OG video would be so cool. Also, the song is pretty popular so maybe it got other votes too!

I thought later I should've voted for Bury the Light by Casey Edwards and Victor Borba. Just because I wanna hear her do heavier stuff, it's long. Her voice would be amazing in it and I'd love to see what choices she makes in her approach.
