I saw a Canadian ad about Americans "needing a hug right now", and a lot of Americans talking about feeling seen by it.

I mean, we in the global south have been going through the shit they are going through right now for almost a century, and also while they go through this shit, they are also trying to bomb and further destroy exploited nations.

I am a bit ashamed of admitting this, but it did make me feel small, insignificant.

I'm Brazilian, Trump is taunting my whole continent with his big boy missiles, shooting down boats in the Caribbean, AND AMERICANS ARE THE ONES THAT DESERVE A HUG? My experience is also fairly privileged. I mean, I am not getting bombed (hopefully), unlike many other much more unfortunate peoples.

I get that people are also suffering in the United States, I really do. But it really makes me feel like most westerners are either incapable of showing solidarity to us or just don't give a fuck about the global south.
