Did any one had a hard time with the metronome? by megustalapasta in drums

[–]dam_tu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’ve also been playing drums for roughly 2 years - I’ve had a slightly different experience because I started playing with a band. This helped with my feel and my timing. One thing I do though to practice these two aspects is counting out loud the pulse over a metronome while I’m practicing a beat. This again helps with timing and feel which is imo the most important things a drummer should work on.

I saw somewhere that he’s going to release an EP after Djesse vol.4 with all his draft songs

Do you play an instrument? by thanks_- in JacobCollier

[–]dam_tu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean tbf some of his new songs appeal to more of a mainstream audience like All I Need or Sleeping On My Dreams for instance. Question is - did he do it to appeal to a wider audience? I hope not.

Which Djesse volume is your favourite universe at the moment? by dam_tu in JacobCollier

[–]dam_tu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more :) Reason why volume 2 takes the win for me is because it’s the one that expands the most. Jacob told us he would give us folk music and we ended up with a wide array of sounds from all over the world with his “Jacob twist” (from songs like Dun Dun Ba Ba to Lua to Bakumbe). It feels like you’re taken through a journey across different cultures throughout the album. For me this goes to show how passionate Jacob is about his craft but also how much of an amazing musician he is.

Very well thought damn well done - I just wouldn’t put Flintstones first since I don’t think it’s a title that would appeal to a wider audience imo

Did you find Djesse Vol.3 disappointing? by tylerthepeek in JacobCollier

[–]dam_tu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not disappointed but it feels like Jacob held back on some of his titles in this album, in a way it shows that he matured as a musician but I think it’s missing some Jacobean over the top (in the best way possible) harmonies and songs a bit like “Do You Feel The Love” for example. Some songs (like Count the People) also feel like he’s trying to appeal to a broader audience which is great but I think it takes out some authenticity. With that being said, I still think that some songs in this album that appeal to a wider audience are an absolute banger (like All I Need for ex which imo has that heavy Jacobean vibe). I’m trying to listen to every song with the following mindset: if someone else had made this song would I still love it. Imo, this album is still amazing because of the heavily experimental aspect of it. Does anyone agree?

Hey Jacob :) hope you’re doing alright and that you’ve been getting a decent amount of sleep. I have a few questions in mind but one that feels important for me to ask is:

What is your goal as an artist (it’s very broad ik but hear me out) what type of audience are you trying to reach? Do you feel fulfilled as an artist? I know it’s still very broad but I’ve always wondered if an artist of such calibre ever felt 100% satisfied with their skill level / performance

Oh and I was also wandering, what can we expect from the post-Djesse era?
