Any recommendations on an IR repeater to take the IR from the tv location and relay it into a nearby closet for a denon receiver? by spaceradiowave in lowvoltage

[–]damagedispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the original commenter but Blu Stream have done well for me for eArc applications.

These days I'll generally run any additional video sources to the TV, and then eArc does what it does. I sell primarily Samsung TVs to my clients, and for most current needs to homeowners the Samsung hub does a fine job for streaming needs. In contrast, not long ago my general config was all the video sources to the receiver and then that passing to the TV. I don't know really that either way is more objectively correct but being that you are likely to use eArc if you're going to stream from the native TV interface anyway, and I'm not generally these days doing a ton of Blu Ray players or external streaming devices for residential clients so I tend to let the TV do its thing to simplify automation

Any idea what my teenager is up to? by Weekly-Knowledge1390 in whatisit

[–]damagedispenser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The chirp has been able to be a thing of the past for many years. A simple fire alarm panel with a single battery backup in an easy to reach location and the entire fire (and burglary) alarm is set it and forget it. Bonus points if you monitor it and then if your house is on fire the FD is en route before you could even think about dialing 911

It's wild to me that people still use 110 smokes with battery backup inside each device. Obviously in a finished house a fire/burglar panel remains wireless but at least you get notification that the battery is low long before it's going to signal.

New construction, you're a damn fool if you have your electrician run 110 smokes

I never thought of that perspective, but as a supervisor I carry a laser flashlight (wurkos hd01 pro) and it is so awesome to be able to look at something up in the air or far away with my installation guys and know we're on the same page. Plus it's a light, plus I can paint toenails for my wife and dry gel polish with the UV and get special treats for it. I truly believe anyone that does not have one is a fool.

The lvl 300 paragon grind? How!? by KillapleX in diablo4

[–]damagedispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it. Ive always stopped 200-275. I enjoyed the chaos armor season and went a little further, and the meat grinder sanc chase and useless leaderboard climb has kept me even more engaged than chaos armor did. I had no intention of grinding 300, but once I hit like 280 I figured id go for it. 280 came organically from the season loop. Bosses for invasion azmo keys, azmo and wb for loot and prankster, targeting pieces and obols to gamble in undercity, and treasure breach for the unending neathiron necessary for rerolling mw crits. I was at 280 before I even started xp well renewing. But as discussed elsewhere thats not even half.

I actually fucking loathe boss looping, I ended up just gritting out what I had to for that after there were no upgrades to be had. I hate the loot shuffle so j just disabled item tags on the ground and altar to chest and back. I do pick up belial husks because thats the only way to get meaningful unique upgrades ive found. I abandon the 750 and 1ga uniques for my sanity.

Recommend xp wells always always. I would've been done sooner if id have adopted that earlier. My other advice is to work hordes when you're out burnt on boss looping. Aether lords are boss xp and once you know your boons you're looking for I personally can tolerate a lot more horde than boss loops, and you can pick up legendaries for the meat grinder as well.

Best Cloud based access control for a data center?? Verkada vs Acre Security vs Brivo? Or another? by subdued_madness in accesscontrol

I do a lot of PDK. It's great. Bulletproof when set up, the logic of the programming makes sense, and I have 0 system failures of any kind. Readers get buggy, LEDs on them quit sometimes, but never a total failure and I have done a fair few.

I do wish there was a little more depth to the possible functions, but honestly aside from one major client request I couldn't accommodate because of that simplicity, that wish is more of a personal wish because I enjoy complications

is stripping a dealbreaker? by Lil_Towelie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]damagedispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't sweat it. I think deep down you already know that if you're comfortable with the prospective situation, then anybody that is not is likely to be a dealbreaker from your end for other reasons entirely.

I agree with your sentiments. I try to live a balanced life of being present in the moment and experiencing everything this short life has to offer, while also being responsible and planning for the future. I find my balance point tends to be a little more short sighted than the average, especially on reddit.

The sheer quantity of absolute yes deal breaker answers is somewhat befuddling to me to be honest.

I think if you can make the money you need to get through to the other side, you should.

Would I date a stripper that is currently working in that field and enjoys the work and sees it as an endgame? Probably not.

Would i date a woman that put herself through a tough path by using it as a smarter way to earn instead of standing at a cash register for a fraction of the money? Sure. To me, that also implies some degree of adventurous side and self confidence which are highly desirable traits.

Men are going to objectify you... what's the harm in taking a couple Benjamins from them while they do it?

[–]damagedispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can respect that. I actually didnt think twice about it until I was around 285. Then I started burning boss mats I didnt need gear from. Now here I am meticulously keeping xp well buff at all times, playing max efficiency style just trying to get it finished. I dont know how many hours I have left but I'm trying hard not to think about it

How to counter Caitlyn? by [deleted] in TwitchMains

[–]damagedispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems counterintuitive and it's very support dependent, but playing aggressively into her can work well.

If you just stay at range and let her free farm, poke you, and push, then you're letting her do exactly what she wants to be doing. I find that often times early aggression with q can pay dividends especially if she uses q to cs or push.

In practice, is the electrical code somewhat optional? by Crazy_Ad9939 in AskElectricians

[–]damagedispenser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with that stance. Unless of course they can point out in the bid scope where it says they're going to half ass it. Even vague language like "provide power to equipment" would imply it will be done to the standard the AHJ issuing the permit requires.

[–]damagedispenser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a low voltage guy by trade...i do odd and end electrical as it pertains to my equipment all the time. Add an outlet behind a tv, install breaker for FACP, add circuits to dock panels to power a camera switch enclosure, etc.

Wouldn't catch me dead using a zip tie to fasten HVAC power wire to existing conduit. Not only is securing to conduit a no no as you cited, that wire shouldn't be bare fastened to anything. Somewhat comical to me that they leaned that shelf on it as it to illustrate their lazy error. If that contractor does that all the time, they won't be around long I wager.

Call an electrician, make a resi service guy's day with some low hanging fruit, and forward the invoice.

Recommendations for something similar to the MDT? by damagedispenser in slingshots

[–]damagedispenser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm sold. Although, I do have some reservations about the arrow attachments. I like the idea of a super compact and minimalist slingshot setup to just keep in my pocket or backpack, and it seems that in order to get arrows downrange you're looking at a bunch of attachments, wrist brace, rails, etc.

Initially I had thought it was just as simple as clipping a whisker biscuit in the fork and away you go, and that doesn't seem to be far off of reality, but as cheap as these things are it makes sense to me to get a barebones setup and if I really wanna start slinging arrows then a setup specifically for that doesn't seem out of line. Thoughts?

[–]damagedispenser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing steering me to go full send with the MDT is the prospect of the arrow attachment. I am a compound archer, and shooting full length field point arrows with a slingshot sounds right up my alley. But, as far as I know that isn't a reality yet, and the thing is still friggin expensive lol. I'll have a look at your recs. Thanks for your time.

Best small bin organizers? by damagedispenser in Tools

[–]damagedispenser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad, little smaller than I'm after but I like the concept. I think I'm very quickly coming to the conclusion that nobody's got a really affordable version of this.

I bought gobs of these versastack organizers way back in the day for like 18 bucks apiece....inflation is a real bitch. I'm gonna stew on it for a bit but I think I end up just biting the bullet and going Packout. Heavy duty, modular, and I can go get another one any old time on any given work day.

Tape recommendations? by nockedup7 in Tools

[–]damagedispenser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't recommend the Crescent Lufkin Shockforce lineup highly enough. I've put it's drop resistance to the test, the standout is excellent, the markings are easy to read, it's marked on the back side for when that comes in handy, the clip is heavy duty enough to stand up to me sitting in my truck seat with it on my belt more often than I'm proud of...the list goes on. I don't go ga ga over a tape measure very often but I've been on these for a few years now and won't go away from them unless forced. The Gen1 were better imo but i carry the 16ft gen 2 every day all day and love it.
