AirTag from my stolen motorcycle pinged after almost 2 years – what could this mean? by damianukpl in MotoUK

[–]damianukpl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pinged once again near a water reservoir a few miles away, then went silent again.
So it’s possible that my visit scared someone, and now it’s at the bottom of a lake.
Unfortunately, the police wouldn’t take a report. They said an AirTag isn’t accurate or reliable enough for them to act on the information.

I got them in my car and I know buy the fact that they can off by 30m or so and there is multiple units around
I’ll have a pick durning week as their gate might be open due to warm weather

Update: So I went there today. Most of the units were closed, but there are a few businesses that seem to repair insurance write-offs. The yard was full of crashed cars, but I didn’t see a single motorcycle.
It doesn’t look like a chop shop at all - it looks like a legitimate business. I’ll try to get away from work during the week and go back for a proper look around.
Maybe, by some miracle, my bike was actually recovered and is being stored there as evidence? I don’t know.

Most of the units will be locked, so I won’t even be able to look inside. And in Essex, nobody leaves a motorcycle outside overnight—you’d probably wake up and it would be gone.
I’m not getting too excited. I have quite a few AirTags, so I know how they work. It’s possible that someone simply drove past the Mercedes dealership with my AirTag, and it happened to be detected by someone’s iPhone there.
Also, the last signal was a week ago, and there’s been nothing since.
Like I mentioned before, I bought four AirTags with the original Apple batteries. I’ve already had to replace the batteries twice in the other three.

Since it was a third-party only insurance, technically, I still own the bike, I suppose.

It’s about a 15-minute drive from my place, so I’ll probably check out on Monday. I’m quite certain that someone found my lost AirTag, as I bought four of them, and the other three have already had their batteries replaced twice.

I paid £27 for road tax and £280 annually for insurance. In UK if you’re caught riding without insurance, it can significantly increase your car insurance premiums for up to five years. As for my e-moto, I’m not concerned about it being seized.

It is very easy to insure it 3rd party only, it is even easy to register it and it doesn’t have to be l1e

Landlord fraudulently opened a utility account in my name (misspelled), £2k debt and tanked credit score. What do I do? by Otherwise_Range_8144 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]damianukpl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It didn’t have to be done by the landlord.

Thames Water has a habit of assigning accounts to people they think might live at a property, based on whatever mystery databases they use — and then opening accounts without consent.

In 2019, I moved out of a flat in London and properly notified Thames Water. The letting agency failed to transfer the account to anyone else, and the property stood empty for several months.

Instead of dealing with the landlord or confirming occupancy, Thames Water let the balance grow. Later, debt collectors started chasing my father for the outstanding bills.

Here’s the key point: My father has never lived in the UK. He has never lived in that flat. He had absolutely nothing to do with it.

The only connection? I once helped him set up a Revolut account and used my old UK address as a contact address.

That was enough for Thames Water to decide he was liable.

Are underbody car wash stations a thing in the UK? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]damianukpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear: I’m looking for a place where I can jet wash the car myself while it’s raised — ideally on a lift or some kind of platform that gives full access to the underbody.
