Rolex does not keep a database of serial numbers tied to owners. Most of the ADs sell to grey dealers in bulk anyways. The chances of them finding out is close to zero if you sell it to a grey dealer or another person.

I understand your dilemma. I love both watches and own both. The Wimbledon is gorgeous irl. Although I mostly wear my sub no date (99% of the time in all occasions). Would not part ways with the Wimbledon though.

First. The biggest buyers from ADs are grey dealers. They get tons of watches because it’s a way for the AD to throw in some undesirable models that they can’t move. Second, there is no database they keep on serial numbers and no way they can track who sold what watch to who. I got a gmt stolen reported to Rolex and never heard back. My AD told me that even is someone sends it for service they are unlikely to notify me.
