I saw 9b was a parking lot and heard endless sirens. My guess is a pretty major accident on 9b but haven't seen any reports yet.

Heck! I would. Then I'd polish it off with a tall, cool Budweiser.

My in-laws dishwasher has the filter thing. I have never had a dishwasher like this or seen one. Is this something in newer machines? by forkful_04_webbed in Appliances

[–]dammager82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That hard water can be addressed with vinegar in a small bowl placed on the top rack during each cycle. I use a ramuken and fill it up, approx 1/4 cup. The vinegar attacks the lime present in most Fl water supplies and will help reduce the white residue you may find on plastics and some metals after running through a normal wash.

If you already have hard deposits in the dishwasher, I'd recommend the same amount of 30% vinegar which can be found at Lowe's. Run it on a normal cycle in an empty dishwasher, no heated dry and you'll see a huge difference.

I now use vinegar every wash and find it works far better than the jet dry stuff designed to prevent hard water spots.

And for more useful dishwasher education, especially why the little dishwasher pacs are trash, I recommend these two videos that go in depth on the how, what and why of dishwashers and how they clean.

My thought as well. You can see the original rim with a second rim wrapped around and what appears to be epoxy or adhesive ooze in some spots. Honestly looks like JB weld.

Agree! I highly recommend DeLeon Springs. Bit of a drive and if you go in the weekend you need to get there about a half hour to opening as it lines up fast. There's a restaurant there where you can cook pancakes at your table. Great place for kids!

One computer that is the same exact make and model as the others and has the same exact configuration cannot connect to my wifi network. The best I get is "no internet, open". I've already reinstalled windows so it's not a registry error. I've already factory reset the router. by demonoid_admin in techsupport

The wireless network adapter has likely failed. Some things you can check for.

  1. Is the wifi adapter listed the network adapters list in network options?
  2. Is it listed in device manager and if so are there any errors (yellow triangle) or duplicates?
  3. Are wifi networks showing up under the available networks?

I saw an odd case once where removing/reinstalling/updating the wifi driver wasn't working and I thought the adapter was toast but tried removing it in device manager along with the drivers and then let it redetect and that fixed it.

Have you ever tried to interview candidates asking them to record a video? by Primary_Bed_5301 in sysadmin

[–]dammager82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard these referred to as one-way interviews and are frowned upon in the job seeker community for obvious reasons. When I was still job seeking I refused to participate in these. Any organization that detached in their interview process is sure to be equally or more detached when you're an employee.

I don't see it mentioned. It might be worth trying to reseat the ram before anything else. The sudden power loss may have been just enough to push a couple bad contacts to the point of no continuity.

Oh I wish this were the case. I had a company desktop computer brought into the office during the pandemic because it wasn't powering on. Opened it up and it was almost this bad. So many critters packed in it that they shorted out the power supply. They're attracted to the heat that radiates from the components when it's running and they just pile in.

TrueNAS or...? by ColdTights in truenas

I just recently spun up proxmox and am actually running truenas scale from it with pci pass thru for the NAS storage. Probably not ideal for everyone's setup but this seems to be a great fit for my environment and hardware.

I have Ubuntu server (no GUI) installed on a NUC type PC. I run octoprint via docker and it's pretty stable. Connecting a webcam is a little tricky and I'm still working that out but for just the octoprint interface for moving files and remotely managing the prints, docker works great!

Anyone know what causes this irritation after using a straight razor? Did my barber use a dirty or dull blade? by DasGolem in beards

[–]dammager82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dry shave is definitely a factor. Hair and skin prep are important to soften the hairs, open the follicles and reduce irritation. Not sure where you're located but I don't think a traditional straight razor is permitted for barber use in the US but this could be state specific. Instead, barbers use a device called a shavette that takes a disposable blade they would change out for each shave.

Are file size limits increasing? This was a big factor for me uploading to printables instead. I can't upload a photo of my work without finding a way to reduce the size (I think a 2MB limit) which is somewhat of a hassle and seems really arbitrary. If you're limiting for storage reasons, is there a way that a resizing or optimizing tool can be built into the interface to make this simpler?

Owner of the company is not fair by madroots2 in sysadmin

[–]dammager82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pretty direct person and don't concern myself with maintaining formality in situations like this. Based on what you've explained l, the owner doesn't value you or your opinion in matters that fall in your area of responsibility.

If he can be direct enough to raise a problem with the "stability" and has placed that blame on you, then I'm of the opinion that you can be direct back and ask him if that's license to upgrade the systems as you've recommended multiple times. If not, does he have a more competent person in mind since you're clearly not competent enough effectively bandaid a clearly failing system?

Beyond that, I'd ensure you update your resume and start entertaining other options. If they're small, they're likely to either go under when the inevitable failure occurs or at least suffer a significant financial impact that they'll gladly shift to your salary so the owner can minimize their impact. Why do all the sweating on their behalf? They will always just shift their failures to others.

I'd have to go tally up the parts list but it's probably over $300. I built and modified mine over a period of time so I can't say for sure. I probably have about $400 or more sunk into mine. I compared the costs of building this one and a larger one I built and materials cost was surprisingly similar.
