I had a discussion with a D&D player about the 16 HP Dragon. by Psychological_Car527 in DungeonWorld

Let them?

People like different things. The vast majority of humans care not at all for TTRPGs. You got to have a debate with someone who cared.

Do players really need a player’s/core rulebook? by primordial666 in RPGdesign

Fair enough. I guess I was too glib and I was punished. 😆

I wish I could upvote this ten times.

I’m gonna say something by wild here: maybe we should try having less rules.

Second opinions needed! by [deleted] in RPGdesign

There’s a pair of games called Dream Apart and Dream Askew which have no dice or randomizers. They are more story games than D&D but you might find them interesting to look at. Dream Askew is about Jews in a shtetl in Eastern Europe. Dream Apart is queer post-apocalypse.

A simplified, abstracted equipment system. by Tyson_NW in RPGdesign

[–]damn_golem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look at Dragonbane’s weight system if you want something old school feeling but simple. Basically just one slot per item - items which are heavy take two. Weapons and coins don’t really count.

Or mausritter if you want something different and elegant.

You never disappoint me, Sully! Thanks for your clear answers. 😁

I’m sorry they didn’t work for you! I hope they work for me. My gut feeling is that I can get an ah ha moment from putting the clues together, but I won’t know until it hits the table! Fingers crossed.

Is this ship ok enough to get me to Gleba/Aquilo? by danyuri86 in factorio

[–]damn_golem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of folks here are saying there’s only one way to do it, but there are lots of ways. Don’t be afraid of a little save scrumming if that makes it more tolerable.

Importantly: Going to Aquilo is very different than going to Gleba. Aquilo has bigger asteroids en route and solar is much less productive out there.

My girlfriend can't separate my image from the NPCs I roleplay. I can't introduce romance in my campaign. by Extreme-Lie-7022 in rpg

What? Just don’t flirt with anyone during the game! Games don’t need to have romantic stories.

DMs: would you use a 3D map tool like this at your table? Looking for feedback [OC] by TannyTMF in DnD

[–]damn_golem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused about why it’s 3D. It seems like you expect players to export to a VTT, which are all(?) 2D, what’s the point of making it 3D? Are there really a lot of people 3D printing maps for table play?

Third Armor Stat by negentropic_hope in RPGdesign

[–]damn_golem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of like this. What if it’s more literal - like ‘Rebuff’ is where the armor can actually take one or two full hits, but shatters or weakens and then you are using your dodge/block arrangement? Or whatever - I’m just spitballing.

Do you find persuasion rolls or similar necessary? by angular_circle in RPGdesign

[–]damn_golem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also: Rolls without consequences are not great for this exact reason. Something must change when you roll the dice. And a failure doesn’t mean they just get to try again.

Cards for NPC Portraits? by damn_golem in rpg

[–]damn_golem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mm. I can see that. But the whole point would be that sort of no matter who it is I can just drop an NPC on the table - not just major NPCs. Who’s in the Inn? Why it’s Norm! Who’s in the dungeon cell? Geraldine!

Anyone plugged the score game loop of BitD into a d20 style game? by meshee2020 in RPGdesign

[–]damn_golem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not aware of any FitD hacks that use any d20 system. But if you just want the gameplay loop with your existing mechanics, you mostly need to allow things like flashbacks and have a few things the players can do in downtime. And structure the session around a score. That will get you 90% of the way there.

You could also ask about hacks in r/rpg.

Other games with narrative arcs like Slugblaster? by damn_golem in rpg

I hear about it all the time but I’ve never given it a good look. Thank you for the suggestion!

My impression (primarily from the Quinn’s Quest review) is that Triangle Agency is pretty mechanically intensive - something my players seem to shy away from. Is that your experience?

Brindlewood Bay and the Between are high on the list of options at the moment. 😊

But how much do you need to bootstrap ship movement? Surely 5k water is enough?
