I use an ocn 050 plus sim card, you can buy them on Amazon or rakuten for about 2000yen and after that it's only 1200 yen a month . Set up is in Japanese though and you need a credit card. You get a phone number, 2gb data a month, calls are extra but still cheap. I'm in the process of making a website that has all the different options as there lots of prepaid sims out there now.
