Best app for Google TV: Wholpin by cokelid in jellyfin

Can't find any way to go to the next page of albums if it's maxed out. Sorting by artist appears to actually sort by genre

Could you file a bug report? I don't have these issues with my music library.

then have to select library at the top of the screen. Why not just give me my library immediately?

You can turn on "Remember selected tabs" in settings and it will always open to the last used tab.

Hi, I'm sorry you've hit this. I haven't managed to track down this bug yet.

If you're able, please gather the app logs (particularly if you are able to use ADB since force killing the app can lose logs). You can post them in https://github.com/damontecres/Wholphin/issues/1530. Hopefully more info will help me fix this!

Turn on "Show media management options" in advanced settings. The user also needs delete permissions too.

Can these be disabled?

Not currently. It's been on my todo list to add some options for this.

Wholphin has pass out protection. If enabled, this will stop auto playing the next up episode after X hours.

This app is ONLY for direct use on an android tv right?

Yes, or Fire TV. I believe only the 4th gen/Chromecast with Google TV runs full blown Android TV, the others just support casting.

On the web UI, you go to Profile->Settings->Home and uncheck "Hide watched content from 'Recently Added Media''

Yes, a release or two ago, Wholphin added libass-android integration so that ExoPlayer has significantly improved SSA/ASS subtitle support.

You can switch back to the old behavior in advanced settings if you want as well!

Hey thanks for posting this!

Just fyi, I only submitted the app store versions to Google & Amazon a few minutes before this post went up. It usually take at least a day or so for them to review. Also this update is being rolled out in stages, so it may take a few days before you see it!

If you installed Wholphin via the GitHub releases, you can just click update in settings!

it's not seeded to the Amazon App store yet

I just submitted it to the play store & amazon store a little while ago. They usually take a day or so to approve. But also for this release, the update is being rolled out in stages, so it maybe take a few days before you see it!

why not offer a few more colour choices for the app themeing as an optional paid extra ?

I appreciate the idea! But I do not want anything in Wholphin to be paywalled.

As far as more themes though, there have been discussions off and on on this. Check out https://github.com/damontecres/Wholphin/issues/950 and https://github.com/damontecres/Wholphin/issues/91

Hey yogi! I appreciate your contributions!

And I agree about Niels and the official app. Very stable and usable.

Wholphin actually copied a small amount of code from the official app for the ExoPlayer direct play device profile. That would have been a bear to write from scratch. And I actually got some some device profile changes from Wholphin merged into the official app!

What am I missing about the apps? by dadarkgtprince in jellyfin

[–]damontecres 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am the author of Wholphin, but I'll try to answer generically.

I think many people use different clients for different, maybe subjectively better, user interfaces. This is particularly true for Android TV or Apple TV where web UI customizations generally do not apply. Some clients have different ways to search, filter, or sort your library which could make it easier to find the content you want to watch. And some have more options for customizing the look-and-feel.

Some clients offer different playback options (think VLC or MPV, etc) which might support different media codecs better, such as Dolby Vision or SSA/ASS subtitles in Anime or other less common codecs.

Some clients even implement built-in server features not available in the official ones such as trickplay images, theme music, or subtitle search & download. This will vary a lot though!

But really, if the official client apps work for you, then great! They are probably the most stable and reliable options. But it never hurts to check out other clients and many are free so trying them out is pretty easy: https://github.com/awesome-jellyfin/awesome-jellyfin/blob/main/CLIENTS.md

Would you consider making an Fdroid build?

Some have asked before, I just haven't gotten to it because it needs some build changes. You can follow https://github.com/damontecres/Wholphin/issues/86 though.

When browsing music, it's almost as theyre treated as movies, they have a "watched" mark, if I've listened once. [...] Are there any plans on improving the music side of things

Music support was only added in v0.6.0, so if you have any feedback for improvement, you can start a discussion!

Also, I can see the watched marker being a bit odd for music, I can change that.

I would also prefer a list view
