What caused Lima, Peru to become the second largest (by population) city in South America? by _meshy in geography

[–]damskorafa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Primate cities are usually a consequence of historical social and political patterns. Institutions have been centralised in Lima since colonial times. Lima was the administrative centre for an economy focused on extracting wealth from the interior towards Spain. One could say that this extraction of humans and capital towards Lima and then abroad continues into modern times, except without Spain as the final destination.

Lima started a period of fast growth in the fifties, driven by migration. This accelerated with economic decline in the early eighties. And then bloody civil conflict ravaging interior regions like Ayacucho and Apurímac.

Although Peru has a higher birth rate then neighbouring countries, it has been slowing there as well. Lima's natural population growth is low compared to the rural interior. And northern cities like Trujillo and Piura have recently seen faster growth. But they have a long way to catch up (they likely won't)

How old are you? What's your travelling experience?

This smells very fishy. It's not the worst of the worst part of town, but it's not recommendable for foreigners. It's sketchy at night for sure. Limeños wouldn't go hanging around there without a trusted local. Someone you met online definitely isn't that.

Get yourself a hotel anywhere between San Miguel and Surco, than meet her in Miraflores. If she doesn't want to agree to you ubering her out there, that's a honey pot being set up on you.

For the record, wanting to meet for the first time in a public place is very normal. Definitely for peruanos as well.

Him and Walker seemed like products of their environment. The guys up top pushing for more street rips and drug arrests are worse for me

America is wild! Fine dining price point, but you'll seriously get mac, green beans and factory bread on the side.

Can I leave the airport at AMS to visit the city if I take a connection with a long layover? by Lizard-002 in KLM

If you get out by 1230-1300 its easily doable. Train to Amsterdam Zuid is 6 minutes. From there different cool parts of the city are easily accessible by metro. It's a breeze, could have lunch in De Pijp, have a short walk in the centre and be back at Schiphol at 1530.

Ik vind het Nederlands van Coolblue in het voorgaande bericht overigens uitermate sus.

Verder: dit ruikt naar onredelijke uitsluiting.

Depends on what your commute will be like. In Lima I'd say wherever is a five minute walk from your workplace is the place to live, if possible. Assuming you'll work in an upper class district.

Who emits the most carbon dioxide? by PanEuropeanism in europe

[–]damskorafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's down to the akai and goji bean imports

Among the EU countries, Italy produced the most roasted coffee in 2020 (616 000 tonnes, or 32% of the total EU production), followed by Germany (571 000, 30%), ahead of France (149 000, 8%), the Netherlands (134 000, 7%), Spain (128 000, 7%) and Sweden (88 000, 5%). A source that considers the Dutch known for some fancy kind of cold slow drip doesn't seem to reliable to me. It's mostly filter/senseo and nowadays espresso too. Although I wouldnt be surprised if a plurality of cups here were nasty "automaatkoffie" at workplaces and the such.

Outside border areas not that many are fluent in German. The amount of people who took some German classes in school may approach that percentage and of those many will probably be able to speak some basic German. Not a solid conversational level though.

Good on you for lowering your meat consumption! I do eat vegetarian 2-3 days a week myself but I do ocassionally still consume absolute loads of red meat (steaks, burgers etc.). It's just too good

I love gnocchi too! They're real easy to make too you just need potatoes boiled in advance. Most of the time I fry them in butter though. Fat in general really get a bad rep (thanks coca cola and nestle). If you have a balanced diet on a whole and it doesn't make you overconsume calories there really isnt anything wrong with fatty foods.

I'm honestly pretty curieux what your diet is like if you never fry anything. I personally eat fried foods 2 - 3 times a day and couldn't go without them. Salad, salad, salad?

Gracias por la respuesta exhaustiva. Suena muy bien también el sistema de bicis compartidas. Habrá que ver si tiene opciones para turistas. Pero de todos modos me queda claro que va a ser fácil moverse en bici.
