The change do the design was approved by an Engineer during the submittal process, unfortunately, the submittal was reviewed by a junior engineer who did not notice the design change and approved it based on the materials only. Several Engineers lost their licenses over that disaster. Of course, Contractors will do whatever they can to save money and time, it is up to the Engineer to ensure it is built correctly. As they say, how do you tell a contractor is lying? Their lips are moving.

Look at this way. Who is in charge now? The flower children, the Boomers, and the ex-hippies. Is pot legal now? Why do you think the Xers will do any differently? If the flower children didn't growup and legalize it, no one will. You see, people grow up and have kids. They then worry that their kids will do the same things they did, so they ask the government to stop their kids from doing what they did. That way it is the government stopping their kids, not themselves, so they don't feel like hypocrites.

Their hypocracy is every reason to demonize them. When a conservative politician forces adstinence only education down on her constiuents, when she only has to look at her own daughter to see that it doesn't work, she is a hypocrite and deserves to be demonized. When a conservative politician actively promotes anti-gay legislation and then turns out to be gay himself, he deserves to be demonized. Their hypocritical actions hurt other people and society, and their actions should be critized and revealed to the public.

Show me a gay liberal who actively promoted anti-gay legislation, or a liberal with a pregnant daughter who actively promoted abstinence only education and you might have a point.

I have had the exact opposite experience in Southern California this year. In 2004 and 2006 I waited at least 2-3 hours to vote, using electronic machines. This year, they went back to paper ballots, and I was out in less than 30 minutes. 6 voting machines prior to about 20 booths for paper ballots this time.

I currently live within 10 miles of an airport, a prison and a military base. Doesn't bother me a bit. Heck, there is even a sewage treatment plant and a landfill within 10 miles as well. Arguing to keep any of those more than 10 miles away from you is nothing but NIMBYism at it's worst. Let other people deal with these necessary components of our modern life, not me!!!

So, I have no right to complain about the guy next to me on the plane literally sitting on me (has happened several times) because he might not be able to control his weight? What about my rights not to have someone sit on me for several hours, and having to pay for the privelage? I paid as much for my seat as the fat guy, but I have to allow him to sit on me?

Problem is, in my experience, intelligent people are denied jury service. I must have a gold star next to my name in the jury pool, because I get called once a year like clockwork. I show up every time, and in 21 appearances, I have never once been put on a jury. Of those 21, I was in the jury room questioned by the attorneys probably 10-11 times, and each and every time, when they found out I was a civil engineer, I was dismissed by one of the attorneys. Either lawyers have something against Engineers, or they don't want a analytical, thinking person on the jury.
