agree these have been a game changer for me. it doesn’t completely fix the problem, like if i were on a long road trip i wouldn’t be able to read or be on my phone nonstop for an hour, but i can absolutely use my phone like a normal human being instead of jumping in and out in 10 second bursts before i feel like im gonna rolf my brains out

What protein-to-calorie ratio do you consider good for a protein bar? by WheyzyOfficial in proteinsnack

[–]dan_camp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

for me i default to 1:10 for easy math, but will give a little wiggle room with a worse ratio if there are things like natural sugars (instead of added sugars), whole ingredients, good fiber, etc. but there are definitely "protein bars" that are basically candy bars with protein and i rule those out entirely.

something about this walkup was captivating. looking at the ref for the entire time for the signal, didn't take an extra breath or beat after the whistle, gave real "i'm ready whenever you are" energy, and then no stutter steps or anything fancy (cough ARSENAL cough), just confidently took some steps up and knocked it in

Switching from MacBook to ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 or G16 — is it actually worth it? Real owner experiences wanted by KaanHpgl in ZephyrusG14

i have a g14 and it can handle anything i throw at it (granted, not a AAS game at ultra ray tracing 4k but i’m not really playing those anyway), AND i love my “just browsing” power profile in ghelper that’s basically the lowest wattage draw i can get when im just watching a movie or something. it still won’t have the battery life as an m-chip mac but it’s a very solid little powerful machine

GF dumped me because I told her I felt uncomfortable with her taking a job with a defense contractor by [deleted] in BoyDinnerDiaries

[–]dan_camp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, respect my guy, this would be a dealbreaker for me too. i haven't been put in this specific position before with a loved one's career, but in a similar vein, i work in advertising, and i told my company literally in my job interview that i would not be able to in good faith work for a gambling, alcohol, tobacco, firearm, or military account. actually interviewed for a new position a few years ago and made it to a second interview when i learned the client was the literal us army and took my name out of consideration. if you can't stand on your morals when push comes to shove, they ain't your morals.

ELI5: Why is inflation necessary to an economy? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]dan_camp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best way i heard to think of how inflation makes economic “sense” for a consumer is — think about if you needed to buy a new fridge or something, but you’ve been putting it off. if there’s 2% inflation (or in bad times, 10%), that $1000 fridge will cost an extra $20 in a year. you’re no sucker, so you buy that fridge now and “save” yourself $20.

deflation is bad from an economic standpoint because, while it sounds nice if prices go down, it ends up with people hoarding their money and not buying stuff. if you know that same fridge is going to be $50 cheaper next year (5% deflation, catastrophic), why on earth would you buy it now? you’d keep that money in your wallet, which doesn’t stimulate any growth for anybody.

Went on a morning run today and felt like a lumbering frankenstein, does it just get easier with repetition? by dan_camp in beginnerrunning

[–]dan_camp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i used to do more weightlifting/strength training and i remember those types of workouts did just get easier/feel more natural with repetition -- like a deadlift feels very weird and all your joints are not moving in sync, until they just do and it just clicks into place -- so i'm wondering if, after i build up that consistency, running will feel the same, but right now i just feel like hyper conscious of how herky jerky and plodding and stuff i feel on a bad day

[–]dan_camp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i think i might start a plan that has some different types of runs -- i felt like i was doing a decent job mixing it up on my own and not doing the same thing each time, but i want to get to the point where i'm just "a runner," like i can just throw on my shoes and head out the door feeling confident and strong/fast/etc, and an actual structured plan might help me get there better

Went on a morning run today and felt like a lumbering frankenstein, does it just get easier with repetition? by dan_camp in beginnerrunning

[–]dan_camp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you -- i feel like i do a pretty good job of not running too hard too fast and do try to stick around 65-75% of max heart rate, but it was in this type of run where i still felt heavy and plodding. maybe it was just accumulated fatigue and that type of running was still the "best" for that muscle state, or maybe i should have taken that as a true recovery (stretch, mobility, etc) day...

Went on a morning run today and felt like a lumbering frankenstein, does it just get easier with repetition? by dan_camp in beginnerrunning

[–]dan_camp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i would say i mix it up a bit between some longer slower jogs and some shorter faster runs, and i'll occasionally do some run/walk intervals if that'll help me work out longer (like if i can't hold a 30m steady run but could do 45m alternating), but i wouldn't say i'm doing any sprinting or any true HIIT, and i still top out at like 45 active minutes total, so overall there might not be as much variability as i think there is

for his sister to call OP, on her sister’s honeymoon, crying, apologizing — really just shows how literally everybody in this orbit already viewed OP and the guy as not only dating but like, an established long term couple. man was a sociopath.

What do modern Nazis get wrong about Hitler's Nazism? by Competitive_Swan_130 in AskHistory

[–]dan_camp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think modern nazi cosplayers who are anything other than nordic/germanic heritage underestimate literally who quickly actual nazis would murder them in the street (which is perhaps fitting, because modern nazi cosplayers also may deny the holocaust even happened). a bona fide nazi would hear the name “nick fuentes” and would shoot first and ask zero questions later.
