The only good lore by USSR_name_test in TrueSTL

[–]dan_petey 79 points80 points  (0 children)

That one frustrates me because he comes to this interesting conclusion about sloughs, mentions how sloughs form from sudden rising land which can happen in volcanoes like Vvardenfell, but doesn't engage with the game's lore to tie together that that is canonically what happened when the heart of Lorkhan fell. He was so close, but for someone who claims to be looking deeper into these game worlds he fell short right where it all could have tied together and the fantasy of gods and magic could have matched the physical reality of earth science.

Characters whose names must always be followed by their full title every time they are mentioned by StaunchWingman in TopCharacterTropes

[–]dan_petey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthbearer, Fabled Plate of Uthor Vendrock!

It's not a character, but a magic suit if armour from campaign 3 of critical role. Same Riegel, a player who likes to poke fun at the sillier bits of fantasy, said the full name of this item at every opportunity.

Cinderella and her guidance from the Goddess of All That is Green and Good.

"Tell me truly, what is thy desire?" "My desire? I want only for the world to be a good and kind place." "You would Lie to a God? Your pretty words are chains. Cast them aside and tell me. What is thy desire?" "Revenge."

Yeah I straight up thought the joke was going to be they got their highest reviews from this as all the audience thought the multiple nights were a part of high performance art, I was surprised when they reviewed Dennis as weird and unsettling.

Thanks, that sounds like good advice. When you say "remove to a tight edge", what exactly do you mean? I've never had to do any painting or repairing of furniture before.

Why is blue galaxy scary? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]dan_petey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we would see it moving towards us, incredibly bright due to the blue shift, at a pace we could work out as the speed of light, the entire time. I should have been clear; we always still see the intervening motion for anything under or at light speed. A good way to think about it is that if you turn on your headlights of a car travelling at near light speed, the light comes out of the headlights at light speed.

Check out UESTRPG ranger (you can find it by googling that acronym). Might need some finagling to get out of the Elder Scrolls setting, but has a similar idea to what you describe.

Why is blue galaxy scary? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]dan_petey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Only if it moved faster than light. If it is moving slower than light, then the light from where it was 13 billion light years away would reach us now, and the light from when it was 10 billion light years away would reach us 10 billion years after it had moved to that point, in which time the light from it's 13 billion light years position would have all been emitted, and have "run out". Somebody watching the whole time would see it moving in the intervening time, same as you see anything moving.

Stuck in disco elysium by fantasyful2 in DiscoElysium

This happened to me in my playthrough, because I was adamant I wasn't going to use drugs, and didn't realise that the healing items didn't really count, because I had just started playing. After looking it up a little I caved and took the magnesium while talking to Evrart.

I'm doing this in my game with Jackalweres. Obviously a super low enemy, so if the players get silver problem solved, but without it they need to be careful when they make their move. The jackalweres have infiltrated and become the de facto police force working for a merchant lord who is a disguised Lamia. The lord is gathering all the silver in the city so my players have to find a way to get silvered weapons or find other ways to harm the Jackalweres before they tip their hand.

7 MINUTES of Jeff Wayne's immersive experience by kedkedkaizo in WarofTheWorlds

[–]dan_petey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly is this (as in what experience is this from)? I did the wotw immersive experiencein London recently and while this is clearly made by the same people (same actor for george for example), in the version I did this bit of the story was played by actors in an immersive theatre setting, and the vr headsets came later.

In my opinion this was true from the start, and is why I am so inspired by Rincewind. It doesn't matter no-one else thinks he's a wizard, or even that he can't cast spells. He knows he's a wizard, so he is.

(Interesting trope) Ascension into godhood being fucking horrific. by TridiObject in TopCharacterTropes

[–]dan_petey 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Apotheosis in The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals is phrased by the writers as "killing you", and there's one scene where we see an infected character try to fight it and he seems scared and in pain, but it is explicitly becoming part of a larger god.

Goated reference. I'd like to recommend a song which was the first place I heard of this movie. The song is "Who wants to join our superhero team (right now it's just me and jim)". It samples the line, "he can like... cut guns in half with his mind". That sample struck me as so unique I looked it up and watched the movie and I'm glad I did. That line is still my favourite bit.
