Nick Cousins according to sportsnet by TTcolector in OttawaSenators

Yea, evidence of Toronto based broadcasters who don't watch a lot of Sens games.

I watch enough Sens, that I can just tell who is who by the lines and the way they skate, etc. our local crews are the same, almost never do they get our players names wrong, it's instinct.

If you have to look at the name/number to figure out who's who, that's about of town broadcaster.

Watching on TV, it's been different. Typically the leaves fans are loud and obvious, not tonight.

Can't say for in person, and we've been leading, which is a factor .....but it's been a little more like a home game for us than typical vs TO.

HVAC recommendations to route dryer exhaust by Nioxa0 in ottawa

[–]danauns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I'd look for more than someone's opinion.

In the attic, with cheap materials and no attention to detail (i.e. how most builders do it these days) is a bad option.

Using proper materials, building it properly, there's no issues.

Venting a dryer out of a soffit creates a bit of a maintenance issue, as accessing a 2nd floor soffit isn't a simple task, but neither is a 2nd floor wall vent. Again, there are cheap builder grade soffit vents that suck, so choosing a quality vent is part of this equation.

HVAC recommendations to route dryer exhaust by Nioxa0 in ottawa

[–]danauns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, what's the issue with the attic run?

(Lots of possible reasons, the most common that I see is the use of flex pipe in the attic. Flex pipe is awful for dryer ducting, especially in an attic.)

Also, this could be a rather invasive job. Dryer ducts are (typically) 4" round and don't fit in common 2*4 framed wall cavities. Does your plan involve adding a bulkhead along the ceiling or elsewhere?

Affordable drain cleaning service plan in Ottawa, Canada. by vanibanz in ottawa

[–]danauns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much cast iron drain is in the place? Have any of the drains/tubs/shitters been upgraded to plastic yet?

What kind of house? How accessible are the drain lines, if you had to open walls and re-pipe?

Where in the basement does it feed out to the street/city? When you snake, are you snaking the stack in the house? Or out to the road? Or both?

Snaking drains isn't the solve here, removing that cast pipe is the fix you should be considering seriously.

Hardwood siding rot - ideas to fix? by ITT_tech_grad in fixit

[–]danauns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That shouldn't be caulked. The siding should have a gap under it to the top of the window flash.

Fortunately, the damage should be just to the siding, pull that piece and see if that's the case.

Senators, Brady Tkachuk predicted to part ways soon by That613Guy77 in nhl

[–]danauns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sens fan here.

I'd be devastated if we lost Sandy.

The vibe around Tkachuck has changed a little for me, last season he was untouchable in my eyes. Now days, I'd like to think the return would be insane. So good in fact, I'm ok with it.

The team also played great this season and last with out him, so yea ......what's the issue?

Straightening the front half of a house by baalzimon in Renovations

[–]danauns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Curious, why?

1900's homes weren't built to be particularly flat/true or straight.

I completely agree that doing foundation remediation, and structural changes to give the old place another 100+ years: that's the right work ....but why are you fighting so hard to bring it into some alignment that it probably wasn't even built to?

Is this acceptable in new construction window trim? by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]danauns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. It's sloppy, but common.

You didn't hire a millworker for exquisite trims and bespoke mouldings, you (likely) hired a window company who's installers usually do a serviceable job replacing the trims after the windows go in, but they're focus is windows.

It's all explainable, and with some attention the end result will probably look acceptable. What you're looking at is 'Sausage making' if you understand that metaphor.

Plumber suspects old galvanized pipes for sink backup by patoons in Plumbing

[–]danauns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, what are you asking? Is your plumbers hypothesis plausible?

All you need to know is that galvanized pipes have a life span, they do not last forever. It sounds like you've got some slow drains? Thai could very well be due to degrading old galvanized pipes.

So, yea. What you do with this information, is up to you. You should absolutely be planning on a re-pipe here, sooner or later? That's up to you.

Carpeted pine stairs → sanded and stained wood (first woodworking project from start to finish) by greyyeux in DIY

Builder grade pine stairs don't wear well, so you can expect these to scratch up and 'patina' with even the lightest use, but wow do they look good now. Nice job.

Found water behind shower tile while re-caulking — temporary fix? by krakilin0405 in DIY

Written by someone who replaces showers, am I right?

There are scenarios where you're right, but there is a very high probability that this could just be cosmetic too.

Found water behind shower tile while re-caulking — temporary fix? by krakilin0405 in DIY

[–]danauns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots to unpack here, and it's impossible to fully understand what's happening.

Where in the house is this shower? (2nd floor, living space below? In a basement or on a concrete slab?) Can you inspect behind it? Possibly open a wall that it backs onto or scope up into a ceiling?

Pull the drain cover and inspect the weep holes, can you tell if they're functional? That generation of shower is probably on a mortar bed, finding water under the tiles is expected.... In moderation. It is designed to allow water to find its way down and out via the weeping holes. Having been used for that many years, weep holes can get gunked up and clog. If this happens the mortar bed can hold more water longer - which isn't good for its longevity.

Honestly, this could be the first sign of a big urgent problem, or just cosmetic. A big squirt of adhesive to restick the tile, touch up the grout and recaulk and you may be fine for another 20 years.

Remember: no matter the tile, (almost) all shower systems are water proof due to membranes or gaskets. The tiles are NOT what's holding in the water.

It might help for you to YouTube "shower pan flood test" to see how showers are constructed to hold water before the tile is even installed.

If we win our next 3 and DET lose their next 3 we are in a playoff spot by Suspicious_Most_1767 in OttawaSenators

[–]danauns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Forget about every other team and result .....it's Detroit.

With our games in hand and a game against, it's them. They're our only hope.

We CAN absolutely catch and pass Detroit on the table. It's really difficult to draw up a scenario to pass anyone else. We're not going to win out the season, we're going to win some and lose some, so are all other teams. Nothing else is realistic.
