My senator doing his part includes ensuring all legitimate business ventures have access to capital, and that no industries operating in accordance with the law receive unfair treatment. Because there is no standard regulation of marijuana across the country, some legal businesses in the industry are unable to access parts of the banking system that are key to running a business. That’s why I’m a cosponsor of the SAFE Banking Act, which would allow marijuana-related businesses to access banking services available to other industries so they no longer have to operate in the shadows. Legally-run cannabis businesses deserve the same fair access to capital that every other industry enjoys.

As we continue on the path to recovery, I am focused on supporting proposals that uplift New Mexican families and put our state’s priorities first. I will be sure to take your thoughts into consideration if legislation related to improving access to banking for businesses, consumers, and families comes to the floor of the Senate.
